Hey there! 39 year old married father of four in Wisconsin and I'm going to have the VSG surgery in January 2011. This forum has been extremely helpful and I appreciate all of the honest opinions and everyone that has documented their experiences with the surgery.

I'm 6'0" and weigh 420 lbs, with a BMI of 58...tired of all the physical pain and ready to start living a different (better) life.

hi wiscosin - welcome - i'm a newbie too - my name is kathy - i'm 58, married w/one daughter and 3 delightfu smalll grandkids:o)

my story is probably same ol' same ol'. I am 5'3 weigt 235, and must lose 100 lbs. i'm so tired of being "so tired", being

out of breath, etc. you know the story. Like many, i have diabetes, high blood pressure and chloresterol, sleep apnea.

Surgery is supposed to signifanclly (msp!!!lolol) inprove problems, if not make some go away.

after my long wait, my surgery is finally about here - DECEMBER 7th - so very excited. little nervous, not about the surgery.

i'm an old timer with surgery these past 5 years. broke my femur 2 different times on the left leg, left knee replacement - and

after i lose maybe 30-40 lbs. the right knee will be replaced..

i enjoy these different sites too. nice chatting wiyou - take care - LiKaSuLeMa -kathy

Kathy:

Good luck! December 7th is around the corner. I am also excited and nervous. At 39, I have been overweight for the last 20 years, but I feel like I'm getting a good "jump" on my health. Please keep in touch and let me know how the surgery went.

Jason

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
