I really have been wanting a salad but my doc says lettuce can be kinda rough going down. Have any of u tried salads since being sleeved and if so how did u handle it? Also, what are some things you include in your salads that you seem to handle ok.

Yes I have had a few bites here and there with no problems. Starting at 6 weeks out. I am at 9 weeks now. Just try a bite here and there and gradually increase as able. I have a sleeve of steel and nothing bothers me!

I would be hesitant with much raw celery. I made myself really uncomfortable with too much raw celery chopped into a chicken salad. I chop my salad greens and the other veggies pretty small. I put in a lot of other veggies and relatively not a lot of lettuce / spinach / etc. I didn't start eating lettuce until about 3 months out. I also do not eat lots of raw broccoli or cauliflower, but I do eat them both.

I'm the oddball of the group, then, since lettuce and raw greens (which I LOVE) do not sit well in my sleeve. Tomato is great! I would say eat the healthy foods your sleeve can tolerate. If you're following the Protein first rule and have some room for a bite or two of salad, fab! Enjoy!

I was sleeved on June 28, 2011....I'm about 13 weeks so far and I CAN NOT eat salads yet. The first time I tried it, I got nauseated, the second time I almost threw up....My doctor warned me that lettuce is hard to digest and it would take awhile.

I loved salads pre-op.

I tried eating the Panera Chopped chicken Cobb salad (lettuce, eggs, chicken, bacon, tomatoes, bleu cheese) about 2 weeks ago and I threw it all up. I didn't hurl or feel nauseous- my sleeve just pushed it all out at once. It was strange, to say the least. I was around 6 weeks post-op when that happened.

I'll be avoiding salads for awhile...

Another powerful sleeve here. I did hold off until after 5 months but I put almost all the same stuff I did before (all raw veggies) and aside from only being able to eat a small amount, no problems. And I still love my salad.< /p>

Well tonight I got brave a made me a small salad. It was just a caesar salad because I didn't want to try a bunch a raw veggies all at one time. So it was romaine lettuce, parm cheese and dressing. I think I'm handling it pretty well because I ate it like 2 hrs ago and feel fine. Thanks for everyones replies.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
