Good morning to you! Well being 2 years out, all i can really suggest to you is this . . . please follow the advise of what your doctor has recommended to you. That way you're going to do it right, keep him/her happy, and have a successful weight loss. I don't believe you should be eating solid meat in stage 2 but then who am i. . . things could have changed since 2 years ago. . . but just follow what your doctor says and you'll be fine.

It all depends on what your doc's program specifies and defines as mushy or soft protein; there are so many variations between programs that it's hard to generalize. I didn't have a "stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, etc." type program but a farily simple first month (puree and soft proteins) and then second month and beyond (everything else) with some overlap as tolerated. My plan didn't specify ground beef the first month but tuna and other fish and veggieburgers were on plan - fish are generally flakey enough that the stomach doesn't have a lot to do to process them so they are often considered to be "soft proteins" like eggs and yogurt. Ground beef makes some sense from the same perspective, though some people can't tolerate ground beef for a while (when my wife was having problems with ground beef after her DS, the surgeon suggested filet as being better tolerated, though this was well beyond her first month at the time.)

I hated the mushy stage, most of the foods were just disgusting (or I couldn't get past the thought of how disgusting something like pureed chicken sounded). I had 1 bite of mashed potatoes & my stomach hurt for what seemed liked hours, egg salad made me nauseous. Other than pureed peaches & cantaloupe I basically stayed on the liquid diet for another 10 days.

Ya I'm realizing there's slot of different programs I think that's what's confusing me im sticking to drs orders because I am having some intolerances so I'm trying things one day at a time because the discomfort is terrible! Me and eggs aren't getting along yet lol

Hi - I was sleeved on Sept 24, so probably right around where you are too ... I'm on mushies now too -- cottage cheese works well for me, so does pureed lentil Soup (which is good Protein, and I love lentils) ... tried tuna w/mayo today, but that didn't work for me ... but will try again in a few days. My nutrioinist also said maybe some chicken, pureed with some broth, a a dab of apple sauce on top .. so I'm anxious to try that, but not ready to do it just yet. Also scrambled eggs ... though I haven't tried them yet either. I purchased a baby bullet and it works fabulously for pureeing stuff .. got it in Target ...

If you like lentils, try pureeing some of the different type of lentil Soups Amy's makes -- they are good source or Protein and are quite tasty.

Keep up the good work!

RG

Sounds silly but my dr recommend trying some baby food at that stage, and it's easier than making it all yourself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
