started pre op diet

Recommended Posts

Wow,, My pre-op is starting at 2 weeks before surgery and it consists of protien shakes during the day and a sensible dinner i.e...chicken , fish etc..and veggies. I have actually started this at a month out to get a jump on weight loss.

3 days before surgery I will go to liquids only.. Now that will be the hardest, but I will get through it..

My doc has started me on the liquid diet and I still don't have a surgery date. They told me that starting it now before they send in the insurance is a good thing in case the insurance denies me and wants me on a supervised diet. It's very hard being on the liquid diet with no surgery date. It's hard doing all of this and not even having a finish line or a date set or anything.

Wow, sorry in advance for not mincing words, but this is crazy. I would not do it. In fact I would get another surgeon.

Just Protein shakes. 6 a day for me. I'm using Bariatric Advantage. I can have veggies if I want.

HI there, I am starting on the Protein in 2 days. I will have 3 a day and 3 Protein Bars. I am also using Bariatric Advantage. How are they so far? Tolerable I hope. My sugery is on Oct 27 so I have to do this for two weeks. I can add veggies if I have to also. Good luck with your surgery!

I am the day after u. I started the diet a few days early to adjust. It's harder than I thought. I drank the banana flavor Protein Powder mixed with h2o and I got nauseous and hungry earlier in the day and just now I gave in n ate cottage cheese n Peanut Butter pretzels. Oh boy. This will b a challenge for me to just do the Bariatric Advantage stuff. The Vitamins from there I think are not good at all blah! But maybe u will have better luck than me. I just might switch to a yummier Protein Drink from somewhere else. U r smart to do the bars too. I bet they r ok tasting. Good luck.

My surgeon will be Dr. Marema in St. Augustine, Fl. He is a surgeon of Excellence and he is a patient himself. He had the bypass years ago.

For the record, I would fire him too if he asked me to start a liquid diet before insurance approval or surgery date. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
