Your thyroid can cause lots of problems: weight gain, Hair loss, fatigue, abnormal periods, temperature imtolerance, and more. I hope they get it under control but at least the meds have been proven to be effective. It will work!

Oh i know all this i have had a probelm with my thryroid for about 12 years however the older i get the higher it goes up. I am seeing a special dr for it now and he has changed some things that no one ever told me. Like take my meds at night and DO NOT take it with any other meds. i get my blood work done again in two weeks so we will see if this helps.

thank you

I sure it will get better. Synthroid or it's likeness is a finicky pill that doesn't get absorbed right if not taken right so I am sure your blood work will be better! I'm sure you will feel better too!

Hi,

I'm almost 47 and have had an under active thyroid since I was 21. Between my pre0p dr supervised diet and since surgery in July I am 6 lbs away from losing ONE hundred pounds! Go for it! I was told by my specialist that weight loss can help because as your body goes down in weight, less and less of the med will be needed in your body because you have less of a body! No it won't make your thyroid suddenly start working but it can mean less meds in the future. I also have PCOS and neither of these has slowed my weight loss down! Hope it all works out for you! Tracy w.

Thank you for the information. I am having my surgery on 10-31-11 and i am only worried about the lbs going off slow. But from the sounds of it you did well no matter what so that makes me feel better thank you so much.

I had to work with my Endo for around 3 years before I got approval for the surgery. My Dr. was somewhat apprehensive because I may not see the results that were similar to people who were not dealing with Hormonal issues. I have issues with my thyroid and my pituatary gland. So as far as hormones go I am in my 'sweet spot' and wanted to have every opportunity to get this weight off.

I have currently lost 126 lbs. and I had the surgery on 8/31/2011. Now I lost most of this weight pre-operative and I still have a ways to go but with my hormones I am learning slow and steady will win the race.

I don't have a scale at home so I will only be weighing in when I go to get my B12 shot. This helps me mentally so that I don't see stalls which can be a downer when you are losing inches more than pounds. My weight loss goal is 1 to 2 pounds a week. Which doesn't sound like much but I believe as long as I am losing each week that is half the battle. Now I am losing more than 2 pounds a week but I wanted to set goals that were realistic for me and taking into account I may be a slow loser.

I just want you to be encouraged. Make sure you keep up with your thyroid meds and know that this is not a sprint.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
