2 week Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

I had been doing so well.. since I started my journey in pursuing the lap-band, later deciding to go with VSG procedure, I have made the behavior changes to my eating habits with stride. I have lost 40lbs since my first appt in January 2011, which is when I started this journey. I was initially denied by insurance 6 weeks ago but found out Monday I had been approved.. I was put on pre-op diet that morning for surgery Oct. 17th. Now all of a sudden I am STARVING.. its like once I was told to not eat anything but what is on a limited list of food items, my brain went back to its primitive form and I want to eat all the time.. Anyone have any ideas.. I understand the purpose of the pre-op diet, and I know I must stick to it the best I can.... but are there any suggestions one might have for getting over those mental food attacks?!

Thanks in advance!

Go for a walk, listen to music, something to keep mind active. Avoid being around areas or food with good smells. Try to chew slowly to give stomach time to tell brain it is full. Unless they are going to postpone surgery for gaining a pound or two, don't worry about it. The weekend before surgery I was at my 30th high school class reunion, I enjoyed myself and put on a pound or so before surgery. Doctor did not care.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion.. taking that, I think I will set aside a few things to do during these fits! Its nice to know that the diet doesn't has to be executed perfectly.. in any case, I will try my best again today!

GUNNING 2005 I AM SO THERE WITH YOU I started my pre op diet Monday 3rd for my surgery 10/19th and I have the hungry fits too. I drink Water when I get them and for some reason that makes the grumblies go away. I do try to stay busy, not watch TV (no wonder this nation is fat with all the food commericals and shows on TV) and play games on the computer or anything to stay away for the tempation. Tonight will be a challange as we are going out to eat at one of my fav's restruants and I am potien-ing up first, eating slow, not drinking at meal and NOT DESSERT. We can do this and it is for our best interest to stay the course. This is when I want to strangle the skinny people that say this is the easy way out...THEY HAVE NO IDEA!!!!!

My motto...DON'T TRUST ANYONE WHO'S LEGS DON'T RUB TOGETHER!!!!! OH DEAR will I have to change that after my sleeve. Never thought of that before...oh my. Good luck and let us know how you do with your sleeve operation and recovery. THIS IS A GREAT ADVENTURE. :D

LOL, Smokey! I love that. I have a little words saying on my kitchen wall that says "Never trust a skinny cook". I was also thinking the other day, I will have to change it!!!

Try to remember this saying: "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels". However, it is a constant game of mind over matter. Good luck!

Haha! That is funny.. I try to avoid situations that may bring on the temptations of 'cheating' on the pre-op, but I'm a stay home mother of 5 and married to a personal trainer who eats like a horse.. I had broke the habit of nibbling while preparing meals and standing when I eat.. etc... but this preop seemed to be my ultimate test.. and I feel like I failed! However, I know how important it is and I still have 10 days before surgery.. I AM SO EXCITED!!!!

P.S. for anyone interested in reading about changing eating behaviors, I would recommend the Beck Diet.. it isn't a "diet" book per say.. but more of a behavior modification in regards to food. It has helped me change a lot of my bad habits and made me consciously aware of the ones I have yet to break! :)

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
