JConz 0 Posted October 7, 2011 I am one week post op today. How would I really know if something is wrong with my sleeve such as leakage. I have been on nothing but liquids. Today I woke up and felt so weak i had to have something. I enjoyed a teaspoon and a half off apple sauce. WOW did I feel better. My doctor's plan doesn't have me on applesauce for at least another week or two. Ugh....am I doing this right? Does my body know better?
Thomas CPA 496 Posted October 7, 2011 I was drinking mostly liquids, you will feel some hunger after losing so much weight quickly. The first week I had applesauce, poached eggs, eggs scrambled soft, juices, Protein Shakes, Water, usual stuff. By second week I was eating relatively normal - real meat and vegetables. At end of second week had follow up with doctor who said I looked better than most of the patients coming in, I wasn't lathargic. He said then I could eat nuts, peeled fruit, just add things and see what could be tolerated.
ravenjeh 16 Posted October 7, 2011 I was supposed to start full liquids on day 8. Day 7, I went ahead and had some Campbell's Tomato Soup. It was sooooo good. But, I was freaking out that I probably had developed a leak because of it, lol. I think you'll be ok with only a teaspoon or so of apple sauce. I know what you mean about feeling weak. Today I almost fainted and spent the rest of the day listless and dizzy. I drank another Protein Shake and started feeling a little better. Hope tomorrow is better for you! suez1105 2 Posted October 7, 2011 I too advanced my diet each week a couple of days early. The end of my first week, I almost passed out in the shower. My dad made me some strained bean with bacon Soup made with milk. It was the best thing I had ever eaten then. It really helped and I felt soo much better. I only had to do Clear Liquids for 1 week then I could go to full liquids for the next week and then mushies for the third then regular food the fourth. I honestly felt better and I am glad I moved on earlier and I am fine and leak free as far as I know. Good luck.
lyndynojo 140 Posted October 7, 2011 Each Dr. is so different, I came home from the hospital on mushie/pureed foods and by week 5 was cleared for anything. I know I felt much better the more I got real food in.
GonnaLoseIt 33 Posted October 8, 2011 I think it is so normal to have leakage paranoia, but to put it into perspective. Immediately post surgery I developed pneumonia, as I have asthma my coughs were violent and sent my body lunging each cough. And trust me there were alot of coughs. If I can go through that and come out of it without a leak, I would not worry. Regarding your hunger, personally I didn't feel hunger until about 3 weeks post op, and I contacted my NUT about it. He actually suspected it wasn't actual hunger but too much stomach acid. He upped my dosage of nexium and I haven't been hungry since. Best of luck to you!
