I am one week post op today. How would I really know if something is wrong with my sleeve such as leakage. I have been on nothing but liquids. Today I woke up and felt so weak i had to have something. I enjoyed a teaspoon and a half off apple sauce. WOW did I feel better. My doctor's plan doesn't have me on applesauce for at least another week or two. Ugh....am I doing this right? Does my body know better? :(

I was drinking mostly liquids, you will feel some hunger after losing so much weight quickly. The first week I had applesauce, poached eggs, eggs scrambled soft, juices, Protein Shakes, Water, usual stuff. By second week I was eating relatively normal - real meat and vegetables. At end of second week had follow up with doctor who said I looked better than most of the patients coming in, I wasn't lathargic. He said then I could eat nuts, peeled fruit, just add things and see what could be tolerated.

I was supposed to start full liquids on day 8. Day 7, I went ahead and had some Campbell's Tomato Soup. It was sooooo good. But, I was freaking out that I probably had developed a leak because of it, lol. I think you'll be ok with only a teaspoon or so of apple sauce. I know what you mean about feeling weak. Today I almost fainted and spent the rest of the day listless and dizzy. I drank another Protein Shake and started feeling a little better. Hope tomorrow is better for you!

I too advanced my diet each week a couple of days early. The end of my first week, I almost passed out in the shower. My dad made me some strained bean with bacon Soup made with milk. It was the best thing I had ever eaten then. It really helped and I felt soo much better. I only had to do Clear Liquids for 1 week then I could go to full liquids for the next week and then mushies for the third then regular food the fourth. I honestly felt better and I am glad I moved on earlier and I am fine and leak free as far as I know. Good luck.

Each Dr. is so different, I came home from the hospital on mushie/pureed foods and by week 5 was cleared for anything. I know I felt much better the more I got real food in.

I think it is so normal to have leakage paranoia, but to put it into perspective. Immediately post surgery I developed pneumonia, as I have asthma my coughs were violent and sent my body lunging each cough. And trust me there were alot of coughs. If I can go through that and come out of it without a leak, I would not worry.

Regarding your hunger, personally I didn't feel hunger until about 3 weeks post op, and I contacted my NUT about it. He actually suspected it wasn't actual hunger but too much stomach acid. He upped my dosage of nexium and I haven't been hungry since.

Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
