Everyone is different but I didn't have an issue with stairs. The only issue I had for about 3 to 4 days was getting out of bed in the morning. That sort of roll and pull up movement was ouchy. Other than than, anything else was mild.

I should add I live in a two story house. There are about 16 stairs to get to my bedroom. I did take it slow and careful. Hopefully you'll have supplies so that after you are home, you won't have to go out for that first 3 or 4 days while you are getting past the first days when you would be most tender.

Everyones recovery and pain level is so different post-op but I didn't have problems with my stairs in my home. It wasn't 4 stories either. But just take it easy and be careful. Have all your supplies and liquids and everything in your home before surgery so you won't have to worry about going up and down for a while, and if you do need something, maybe a friend or family member can assist.

Good luck!

I also have stairs in my home and it was a concern of mine so I brought it up to my surgeon. He actually encouraged me before I left the hospital to walk my stairs as part of my walking routine. He said it helps out alot more w- preventing blood clots because your using all movements in your legs.. Anyway walked my stairs and had no problems at all. Like mentioned above, it was getting in and out of bed that sucked..

As jinjin noted, if it's something that you're used to, that helps a lot, But this is certainly something to bring up with the surgeon's staff. As with many things involving the immediate postop period, there can be a wide variety of responses and outcomes. The best thing we can do is to hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Is there an alternate place with easier access where you can stay for a few days if things work out on the less rosy side - friends, relatives, hotel? It's always good to have a backup plan that you hopefully don't have to use.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
