heartonmysleevey 133 Posted October 5, 2011 Just wondering if anyone that lives close to Mexicali could help me out? I would like to know how much you guys paid. Fees from start to end. I just had some horrible experience with my medical group. I am so close to finishing my six months and they just threw another six months in my face. They want me to drive 45 miles one way to a weight loss class. Once a week for six months!!! Have they lost there mind?! Just would like some prices so I can get my wallet ready. Sorry, Im so upset right now. Thank you all for your help.
LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted October 5, 2011 Hi there, I'm so sorry to hear your insurance is requiring such outrageous pre op hoops! I totally get your frustration. I had to self pay myself since my insurance didn't want to give me a revision. You mentioned Mexicali, so I assume you're talking about Dr. Aceves. He is a wonderful surgeon, very skilled and the hospital and staff he works alongside are simply the best. Last I heard he was charging 8,900 for sleeve only. This was awhile ago though, so hopefully a more recent Aceves sleever can chime in. My travel fees came out to about $600 and we live in Sacramento, so much further than you. We drove the whole way too, since I don't like to fly. LOL Good luck to you!!

Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted October 5, 2011 8750 seems to be the going rate. Sometimes there are specials in about August because it's so hot there, people sometimes will choose another month. I have heard he runs specials to get people to come in August. That includes all tests and everything other than the prescription for an acid blocker that you get before you go home. You can get it filled right next door.
heartonmysleevey 133 Posted October 5, 2011 Thank you all so much for your replies. It means a lot to me. my doctor never disclosed any of this. I have seen a dietician, got psych clearance and was getting ready for X-rays and such. Why did she allow the referrals to those things if I still have EIGHT months tom even see a surgeon? Just weird and bizarre. I have to have a chat with DH before I can make a final choice. Thanks again Xoxox
Brittanysiemens 3 Posted October 6, 2011 I am seeing Dr. Kelly (who is very well reviewed and has 11+ years experience, as well as US training in trauma) for closer to 6000$. I made this choice after massive, extensive research for 2 years. There are many doctors in Mexico who perform this surgery far more often than doctors in the US, with little to no major complications. I don't consider Mexico the best option because it's less expensive or requires less paper work, I consider it the best because of the level of experience some of the surgeons have. If I won the lotto, I'd likely still be set on Dr. Kelly, and from my research Aceves is a great surgeon as well. Best of luck to you!
KellyL 173 Posted October 6, 2011 Sorry you are going through all this frustration with your insurance company. It is truly ridiculous and many of us have made the choice to go to MX. I paid under $6000 for my surgery, stay, and flight. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey, I hope it all works out well for you and you are able to have the Sleeve. The best thing I have ever done for myself, and I am very happy.
