I also have ulcerative colitis. I'm experiencing a slight flare post-op (I'm 8 weeks post-op). I actually need to call my gastroenterologist and surgeon to discuss. It's not a really bad flare to the point where I can't leave the house (no pain, minimal bowel urgency, just some bleeding) but I'd like to get it resolved. I suspect the flare is just due to such an extreme change in diet post-op, so I'm hoping that minor treatment will resolve it and going forward I won't have ANY issues.

I'm in a preop flair up... I hope I don't have post op.. I'm seeing my GI today, I'll mention what u have experienced so I am prepared. I'm afraid of becoming anemic at this point. I've been bad for three months but I'm sure it's presurgery nerves. Thank u for sharing . Get well soon .

I have chron's/colitis I had a endoscopy before surgery to make sure all was well and had some polyps removed. I had a small flare up after surgery, however you are empty due to the clear liquid diet so it was over pretty fast. I am finding less discomfort with my chron's because there is less food in the intestines and I'm starting to enjoy having less food. If there is any questions please feel free to ask.

That's what I'm afraid of is pre/post op flair ups. I have been in remission since 2003 and haven't been on any meds since then either. I start my pre op on Oct 27th. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed!

I'm post op day 4 and no flair up with my ulcerative colitis. I am taking my meds as before and still on liquid diet and ok. In a week or so I shoukd b on mushies n I'll post how I am or feel free to ask. The medication however, (asacol) is not digesting or breaking down at all in the digestive process. Maybe that'll change with time , but meanwhile to sipositories r ok and helping.

I spoke to the nurse and due to the pills not breaking down in my new tummy, I stopped taking them. Goodness knows if one is stuck. I hope the siposotory will b enough for Now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
