Aerobics instructor comment...

Recommended Posts

I found this great step aerobics class and I was so excited to start. I used to do step a few days a week for years and I love it! I was elated to find one in my area. I went Saturday and it was great. I went this morning and it was a different instructor. She was nice and bubbly, even my age... early 40's. All was going well until.....She was commenting to the class about one of the womens accomplishments in weightloss and said, "Lorraine here has lost 12 pounds!!! Wooohooo! "and she did it the right way!"

I was slightly taken aback. I know they dont know I had surgery, and I may be sensitive right now, but I cant think what else she would be referring to as the wrong way except wls. I remained silent and just felt odd, I guess. I shook it off and gave her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe thats not what she meant. I can see why people dont want it known... It still has a stigma about it.

I am just saying it left me with an odd feeling.. I didnt know what to feel.

Right? Wrong? Not sure if there is a right or wrong way as long as weight loss is achieved, maintained and a healthy lifestyle is in place... I agree... it does seem a lil strange? Perhpas she was refereing to the fact that she was exercising... dunno... but I see where you are coming from!

If no one knows about you then I would guess she meant that she worked out and ate right instead of starving herself or using diet pills like so many women I know! I agree there is a lot of stigma associated with surgery but as you know this is really not the "easy" way...there are no easy ways!

I agree there are wrong ways to lose weight as mentioned before. I don't think WLS really is at the top of people's minds. I say keep exercising and don't let this comment keep you away from a class you love.

I would say the "wrong" way are things that are unhealthy like starving yourself or taking things that are possibly dangerous like untested herbs and pills that are hawked on TV. I would give her the benefit of the doubt. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
