Today makes one week since surgery. I have lost 12pounds. The things that worry me is I still can't keep any Protein Shakes down, I can't drink more than a bathroom cup size of anything with in one hour or more and food _ I eat less than that. My Vitamins or really hard to keep down. I'm going to see my doctor Wednesday thank goodness. But Did anyone have this hard of a time? Is this normal?

LoBee, according to my surgeon the number of patients like yourself number 20% of VSG with the nausea/vomiting complication. He told me before surgery that for many it will pass in the first week, some in weeks 2-4, and some will have it through week 16. My doctor would not even release me from the hospital until they could see that I was tolerating Clear liquids. I was sent home with three different anti-nausea medications...a pill, a patch, and suppositories and have been fortunate that I have not needed anything.

Let your surgeons office know...if you become dehydrated the nausea is worse and you wind up in a vicious cycle. I wish you the best!

LoBee- this is absolutely normal. I'll be 3 weeks post op tomorrow and I'm just starting to get in my Protein Shakes. My issue was that I could not find a shake that was not sooo sweet. I finally bought one from my surgeons office that tastes ok. Now I can get 2 shakes down a day. Be patient and don't force your body. When it's ready, it will take the Protein shakes in with no problem. I also found that thinning out the protein shakes with Water helped me. Some of them are kindda thick. Best to you. It does get better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
