So, who watched a video of an actual VSG procedure before getting sleeved?

I watched it, too. I found it actually quite comforting because the procedure I watched seemed fairly simple. I think that's something for each person to decide, and I worried that watching it might freak me out, too, so I'm glad it didn't!!

I too am having the VGS...my surgery is scheduled for Nov.2, 2011. I watched several videos of the surgery and I am glad I did. I feel very good about the procedure and think the video answered a lot of my questions.

Good luck on your surgery! :)

I am curious to see who watched a video of an actual VSG before you had the procedure?

I am a nursing student & have had one surgery prior to this when I had my gallbladder out 10 years ago. I wasn't afraid of surgery & the procedure went fine. Since then, I have been in the OR a few times in nursing school & have seen open heart surgery while I was 2 ft from the patient's open chest. Now that I am (hopefully) getting the VSG, I found myself feeling nervous about the procedure in a way I had not before. I went back and forth with the idea of watching a video of the procedure to take the mystery away. We fear the unknown & all that :) I finally decided to watch one last night & I am SO GLAD that I did. I already feel better!

AM I NUTS!? The consensus among my friends was to NOT watch it. They all thought it would be scarier. What do you guys think??

I'm awake at 3am watching videos of my surgeon doing the procedure, which I feel is important to see his demeanor, work, success, etc

I watched a couple of different VSG videos. Plus, I have a gross, all about body parts, surgery, CSI lovin' 11yr old son(at the time, he's 13 now) who wanted to see what they were going to do to his momma's stomach. I was especially interested in a band to VSG revision video.

I'm way to inquisitive and researchy to NOT watch videos!

I watched it until I could have done the procedure myself LOL. I wanted to know every single detail about it and what was going on. :)

I watched the video before my surgery, and it made me less nervous on the big day. But my friends say I'm crazy because I've watched a video prior to every surgical procedure I've ever had including the child birth video before having my daughter. I believe knowledge is power.....lol

Take Care

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
