Not AT ALL hungry- 2 months post op

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Well, every day is a new journey with this sleeve of mine. I was 2 months post op last Tuesday. The newest thing for me is that I am not hungry. I mean...not at all. Over the past week, I can force down a Protein Shake and some Water over the course of a day and that is it. I do not have hunger pains or anything. It sucks because I am really weak and fatigued due to lack of calories. Any suggestions from those who have been here?

Thanks!

You will have to eat on a schedule whether you are hungry or not. I lost my hunger immediately after surgery and have found that I need to eat by the clock. Breakfast at 7:30, snack at 10, lunch at 12, snack at 3, dinner at 5:30, snack at 8. You will feel so much better when there is a steady stream of nutrients coming in and it will spare your muscles from being metabolized.

DrMommy I am right there with you. My surgery was july 20 so I'm a little over 2 months out. I have absolutely no hunger whatsoever and it sucks. I have to force myself to eat and since everything tastes weird it makes it that much harder. I hate the Protein Drinks and bars so those are out 4 me. Stuff that I loved before surgery I can't stand now, even beef Jerky is a good source of Protein and I won't touch it. This last Friday I spent 8 hrs in the ER getting fluids, potassium, and antibiotics for a bladder infection I didn't know I had. I just got to where I felt soooo sluggish and my husband and mom did I guess u could say an intervention! I definately suggest doin that if your not getting any nutrition. At least go to your primary doc and have him draw labs on you. I have lost 70 lbs in 2 months and that scares the crap out of me. Yes I did this too lose weight but not to lose my life. I had no idea it would be this hard or this surgery would have been out of the question, but we are stuck with it now, there's no going back.

lovemyboys....well that story scared me straight!!! Thank you for your honesty. I know, intellectually, that I am risking malnutrition....but I do not want a hospital stay. Foxbins....you are right. I have tried putting myself on a schedule but don't stick to it strongly becasue the idea of eating or drinking makes me ill. But I will give it a go again. Thanks ladies!

Hi lovemyboys, I haven't had surgery yet. Could you please elaborate a little? All foods taste weird to you so you are not eating? Is that why you have lost 70 pounds in 2 months or have you had another complication? What does your surgeon or nutritionist suggest? Sorry that you are going through this.

Longer-life, I've lost 70 lbs in 2 months because the very thought of eating completely turns me off so therefore I eat very little. If I could live off of gatorade or Water I would have it made but, of course that's not possible. I can get down string cheese, potato Soup, and sometimes turkey from the local bbq place. Oh and shrimp most of the time isn't a problem. Let me just say that I know 8 people that have had the sleeve surgery and none of them seem to have this problem. No matter who you talk to or how much research you do, everyone is different and you may have a great experience.

Thanks for answering. Hopefully you have lined up appointments with a series of professionals (nutritionist, your surgeon, psychologist etc) to help you search for a solution to this serious issue. Consider posting a thread about it here as well. You never know what the experienced sleevers can come up with. Best wishes!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
