Protein Ideas PLEASE

I bring sliced lunch meat with me often when I'm on the go. How about just leftover meat? I'm thinking some leftover chicken on toothpicks or a wooden skewer with some kind of dip to help moisten it since it's so dry when its served cold.

Have you tried edemame? (soy nuts) I have a bag of those in my school bag when I remember. It's such an easy snack and so portable. Almonds work well too and I think they have something like 14g of Protein per serving.

Along the lines of pepperoni crisps, the same can be done with salami.

Hard boiled egg.

theworldaccordingtoeggface web site has some recipes for extra high Protein, low carb mini muffins. They seem like they'd be easy to pack up and go.

Cold shrimp.

Heather, you have saved me! Breakfast is my biggest challenge, scrambled eggs every day gets a little boring. Well I went on eggfaces website and got recipes for high protein pumpkin pancakes, chocolate protein mini muffins, and blueberry protein mini muffins! YUM! I figure one or two of these with a piece of bacon or ham will give me a nice high protein breakfast. Thanks for the sugestion!

Quick question about the pudding... I have unjury unflavored Protein... do you think I could mix it with milk and then make a s/f butterscotch pudding with that? I havent tried to make pudding and I was wondering the order you do it in, etc...

Yes, I use the unflavored Unjury for the non-chocolate puddings, though to my taste the chocolate versions work better, being closer to "real" with less of the artificial tastes in it than the other flavors I have tried. But that's just me. My wife loves the tartness of plain yogurt, which I still cant take by itself, doesn't like it added to the pudding which I find to be a good complement. Go figure - as if we're individuals or something!

My favorite food in the entire world is turkey meatballs...I heat 3 up in the microwave for 1 min. add 4 tblsp of speg. sauce and re heat for 30 seconds. Yummy Yummy!

Also try peanutbutter balls listed on this site...If you love pb you will love these.

When I get sick of eating lunch meat alone (I am 10 months out so it depends on where you are) I add lettuce to the outside.

I make turkey bacon and wheat pancakes 1 time a week and save the left over bacon for a quick morning Protein. It microwaves ok if you dont overcook it.

1 cup Peanut Butter (microwave to melt)

1 cup oats

1 scoop Protein powder

5 packets splenda

Stir together, form into balls and cool in refrigerator

I use chocolate Protein and they taste SO yummy!

I start with the milk and mix in the Protein powder and any other flavorings (maybe a little vanilla extract to boost the vanilla a bit, or peppermint in the chocolate version). If I use greek yogurt in it, then I only use one cup of milk and one scoop of Protein Powder, otherwise it's two of each for the small box. Then the pudding mix goes in and mix for a couple minutes until it thickens. I normally do it all with a wire whisk, but a mixer should be workable too (it's just too much of a PITA for me to pull the mixer out, set it up and then clean it.)

When I first started playing with these things early post-op, I usually frapped the milk and powder in a blender first and then transferred it to a bowl to mix in the pudding mix. I got out of the habit of doing it that way (got lazy, I guess...) and just accepted that the texture of the Unjury puddings wasn't quite as good as some of the other versions, so that's something to consider if you have any problems getting them mixed well enough. And, I think that adding the yogurt helped on that texture front, too.

Cool. I tried an eggface recipe last night for banana caramel Protein Bars and it turned out horrible. You can also get pro pudding by body tech. 25 grams of Protein and 4 carbs. All you do is mix it with Water.

It's really good quick and easy.

That's right, 4+ 1/2 cup servings (or 4oz by weight by my measurements) - the extra scoops of protein powder adds a bit more volume than the basic package recipe, so you get a bonus half cup for the last serving.

I've tried a couple of the eggface cake recipes and they work ok - texture isn't quite the same as real cake but they're a lot friendlier nutritionally. Certainly not a staple food but a nice treat (have a bit with the pudding!) and by my calculations around 70 cal and 4-5 g protein for a 1 oz piece (about a 1 inch cube). Not a big piece by pre-op standards, but a nice little munchie that can be tolerated in my daily calorie allotment.

A few of my fave easy Protein meals:

Aidell's hawaiian chicken meatballs (you can buy them at costco) -- drizzle a little teriyaki sauce on them or eat them as is; they are very flavorful and moist. There are other different flavors and most of them are yummy and not too fattening. I love them!

Lately my fave Breakfast has been hardwood smoked chicken sausage (1 serving, 1/7 of the package, has 90 calories and 8 g protein), which I pan fry with a little maple Syrup drizzled on them at the end (adds a nice bit of sweetness to contrast to the savory flavor). It takes about 3 minutes to pan fry the sausage when they are sliced into bite size pieces. I haven't taken it into work yet but I bet it would taste fine reheated in a microwave.

I luurrvve me some Tony Roma's shredded pork in BBQ Sauce (I buy it in the frozen food section of Wal Mart). One package makes many meals. I thaw the package per the instructions and then divide up the portions into plastic storage containers to grab and go. I have been known to eat this for breakfast (I really don't care what people think about what should be eaten for breakfast! Eat what you like, I say!)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
