Had serious issues with constipation...I used the colace they gave me at the hospital but it didnt work. I started to use Mirlax (not recommended by doctor becuase he thought natural was better) but it worked after about a week of using it. Then I only used it when I HAD to. Around 3 months out I finally got into "regular" pattern. It was a long process for me but it will

work out in the end.

Good Luck to you.

Hi

I'm in week 5 post open and Constipation is a serious issue for me. Any suggestions?

Yep, seems like most everyone suffers either from Constipation or the direct opposite - THE RUNS!

Like TwoBoyaandAGirl above I use Mirilax, I take a half cap every day. While it is NOT natural it seems to be pretty inert and only helps. I've actually used it for years due to ongoing issues that just got worse post surgery. I would advise using the name brand, I tried a generic and it just did not work for me, I posted this on the site here and a few chimed in stating they had the same effects, the generic just didn't work.

This is definitely TMI but I am 4 days post op and have not pooped. I feel really stupid asking this question, but when do you poop again? Not during the clear liquid stage? I know it makes sense because I am not eating solids, but still...I need to know...thanks...I really am not as stupid as this post makes me sound! Lol

Hi Tinacasa,

Congrats on getting through the surgery. The first week or so I had the runs and I'm sure that will change for you soon. Since you're on liquids you will have the runs soon as well.

When I went for my 1 week check up I still hadn't gone. My doctor told me to get some Milk of Magnesia. It definitely worked but since taking it (9/28) I haven't gone again. I guess it's because I'm only in my creamed Soups phase. This week I move onto mushies and with that hopefully some regularity will return.

I'm 7 months post-op & this is still a mega issue for me. I've tried the Miralax- (stool softener doesn't work for me, laxative does, but is bad for you). I drink Benefiber in EVERYTHING, I eat prunes. I finally have started taking Milk of Magnesium once a week. This does work & is non-addictive. Hopefully, when I get to my goal I can add back in more veggies & that will allow things to move a little more naturally.

Krista

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
