I'm very concerned that if vomiting a lot happens after they do the post surgery barium do they check for leakage again before discharge from hospital or if vomiting continues. I'm so scared of a rupture as I know I will vomit due to my acid reflux. Thanks for your reply.

I was really worried about the upper GI that they scheduled for the morning after surgery. I just couldn't imagine that the first "food" so to speak, in my new tummy was going to be barium! They gave me a Water soluble Isopure drink first while doing a live screen shot to check for leaks. Then they had me take a small swallow of barium, looked again at the screen, had me turn a different direction and take another small swallow. A few minutes later it was a hard copy x-ray and I was done!

I have been fortunate that i do not have nausea and vomiting so maybe I have a tougher tummy than some or I am just one of the lucky ones, I know that I feel blessed.

Good luck!

Don't worry, once I gotback in my room from it I threw it all up. My nurse told me it was completely normal and a lot of people throw it up. I wouldn't worry about it, seems to me if a smallcase of throwing up can make you leak then they would always take you back to double check.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
