Weight Loss Competition

Recommended Posts

Ok so,

At work we have a weight loss competition where everyone pledges $50, and after 6 months whomever has lost the highest % of body weight takes the pot.

Since I'm getting VSG in 3 months, I kind of feel like I'd be cheating.... not saying it's the easy way out by a long shot, but it's a tool that no one else in the competition has at their disposal.

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Yep, definitely cheating as there is NO WAY you can lose - except weight that is :)

LOL.. one of my first thoughts was "hey, i should totally join a weigh loss competition" but... alas... it really would be cheating. Even though our sleeve doesn't do the work for us, it does give us a boost long-term because it allows us to stick with the weight loss over time. Now, if you were upfront about it and your co-workers said sure anyways, well then heck yeah i'd do it. But I can't honestly see your co-workers being okay with it.

I also have to admit that I think it is less cheating with the sleeve, then say you were doing bypass or DS, cause they literally help you lose weight without any work because of the malabsorption aspect. The sleeve just limits how much food you eat... but still. I think people would see it as cheating.

Ha! I was literally presented with the same situation 1 day before i was flying out for my surgery. I kid you not. I thought about it for a second and thought, 'wow, that's a nice pot of money i coudl win!" Especially since we are planning a wedding. But I ended up backing out of the deal because really... it just wasn't fair. I told them, I wasn't going in on it because i didn't want to disclose my weight publically. I just said, every Monday I'd weigh-in and do the body fat calculator privately and play along w/ out getting a price. They seemed to understand. Now 3 weeks post op i've dropped nearly 20lbs!

Good luck to you though!

Since there is money involved, I'm guessing the other particpates would cry foul. I don't think WLS is cheating, but this I would consider cheating. Sorry!

You'll be the winner in the end anyway because you will be healthier and your chances of keeping off what you lose will be higher.;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
