Hello and Welcome to the October group!

Believe me, I know how you feel about being nervous, excited and scared all at the same time because I'm the same way.

Hi there - does your surgeon have suggestions regarding pre-op Protein drinks? If not, you could try to search this site - I think there have been many threads on that topic. I'm one of those who doesn't have to do a pre-op diet (I did a three-month insurance-required diet instead.) The three-month diet required a Protein shake once a day. I found I liked the Syntrax nectar chocolate Truffle made with FF milk. There are websites like Bariatric Advantage that allow you to order a number of sample packets so you can try different flavors.

Good luck to you!

Hi

I was required to do a six month insurance approval diet but it didn't have any restrictions on it. I just had to follow a plan a loose for the six months. The Dr suggested the baratric advantage drinks but said I could buy store bought as long as they were under 20g of carbs, as the baratric ones can get a little pricey.

Hi, partner, I am also having surgery on the 20th with Dr. Weiss. I live in georgetown. I hsve been drinking shakes from GNC store. Total Lean shake they have 25 grams of Protein, 6 carbs, 170 calories, 24 Vitamins & minerals, & is lactose free.. They will let you taste the different flavors. I like chocolate so I bought the swiss chocolate. They taste just like chocolate milk to me & since lactose free, I don't have any of the problems associated with milk products.

I bought Vitamins from Celebrate. One month supply cost me a little over $70. I started taking this weekend, but not sure if I need them yet, since the shakes have alot of the vitamins we need already in them. I'm going to call the office today to ask them.

If you want, you can e-mail me direct at vfraley@cs.com & I'll give you my phone number so we can talk.

I get the ready to drink shakes at GNC. If you prefer powder, check the label closely to make sure you get the right ones. The store will let you taste some of the products. Email me if you want to talk privately at vfraley@cs.com.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
