How is weight loss for people over 50?

I haven't been able to take all my pills and supplements either. I decided which ones were the most important, and even getting those down is a chore. I have a pill crusher, so I might go back to

taking my Calcium. I will have to crush it.

Yep, that's what I'm going to do.. cut out some of those supplements! I did go right over to Target and found the B-Complex liquid, sub-lingual. Yeah!! I remember reading that Vit B is important. So now I have that and chewable Centrum, chewable calcium. MY DH keeps insisting I take all this stuff. Especially Vit. C and they are usually hard to swallow. But those are easy to find in chewable.

I seem to have a lot more restriction since my 2nd fill yesterday. Hope it stays that way. Achy stomach from the poking around, though, and just feeling generally yucky today from that & my flu shot. AND the gloomy weather!

Yea, it's raining here in Oregon. The rain came early this year. We usually get a nice Indian summer but we got gyped this year.

I am going to have to look for the B complex liquid.

Isn't restriction great? I love not ever getting hungry anymore!

:rain:I'm in Everett WA. Indian Summer??? We didn't have ANY summer, Indian or otherwise!! We just moved back to WA state after 15 years in OK. So I've been used to temps in the 90's and even over 100 for the last 15 years! This summer I never got to put my sweatshirts away! We go south for the winter...down there in the Palm Springs area. Those "Snowbirds" IndioGirl doesn't like! :D

And I can't wait to get down there and get warmed up!!

:sun: :shade: :rolleyes::)

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site, this is terrific so many people to talk to, and to read about. I had no idea how I was doing with my weight loss until I starting reading everyones posts.

I had my lap band Jan. 31, 2007 :) I thought I would never see that day, my insurance took over a year to okay it.

As of Sept. 28th when I visited my family doctor I had lost 74 pounds! :clap2: This Friday I have a dietician appointment so I hope a few more pounds will have come off.

Wishing everyone the best.

JKR

Don't like SNOWBIRDS! Boo Hoo! I know the ones you mean. The 90 yr olds who can't see over the steering wheel and drive anyways, 15 mph!

LOVE you, too!

As you can see, I changed my signature. But I don't really like that font and now it's too big. It was a struggle, so will have to wait until I build up some patience to fix it. And I am .2 lb away from being able to say I'm down 40 lb.! :high5:

I noticed this morning - our lucky 7 board isn't as active as it was in the begining - so you are going back to Phyl

I want to change my signature too - but just haven't had time to mess with it either.

Almost 40 lbs is that .2 or 2 lbs - if it's point .2 go potty and you should be there - if 2lbs then you will be there by next week. That just such a great accomplishment !!!!..

I have 3.5 to go til i hit that mark - so most likely i should be there by 10/25 - go for 2nd fill on the 24th...

63 is too young to be considered a snowbird - you gotta be 80 at least and yes drive 15 mph - at 7:30 in the morning when people are trying to get to work - When I lived outside DHS when I was w/dh - it never failed that i would get behind a putt - putt person - MOVE... I am an inpatient driver

My father was one of those Canadian snowbirds who was also the driver from hell. :) Riding in a car with my dad was a terrifying experience. :fish2: He never got into accidents, however. I think it was because his driving was so bad that other drivers stayed clear of him. :rolleyes

Yeah, we retired early so we are YOUNG Snowbirds! We drive like normal people.... pretty much!! :)

By the time I went and took my shower this morning, I made it to the 40# mark!! Hooray!! Restriction is great with my 2nd fill!! DH made me a one egg omelet with eggbeaters this morning, a few fresh spinach leaves, tiny bit of sliced onions and one sliced mushroom... I made it halfway through that before I had to quit.

It was Dini who started calling me Auntie Phyl and she's hardly ever here anymore, so I dropped the "Auntie".

Ugh! I never thought of that! And my mum never learned how to drive so he did it all. :help:

Two senior citizens were lamenting one day about getting old.The first one says, "My neck hurts so much I have a hard time turning my head left or right". The second one says, "My eyes are so bad with cataracts I can barely see four feet away". The first senior pipes in, "Yes, and my arthritis in my hands is so bad somedays I can't grip anything". The second senior replies, "My hearing is shot, couldn't hear a train coming if it was right in front of me". Then the first senior says, "But at least we still got our driver's license". :)

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, "Herman, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on I95. Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
