How is weight loss for people over 50?

Recommended Posts

Hello Nancy. My name is Clara. I just now saw your post. I had my band on the 27th of August. I will be 59 in October. I also did this for my granddaughters. I want to see them grow up. I started my liquid diet on August 13th and will continue liquids for 3 weeks after surgery. I have lost 18.1 pounds. I go see my surgeon on Friday. He better be proud of me!!!!!

There is a thread for those over 60 years of age. I usually bounce between this one and the one for 60 and over.

Good luck. Keep me posted.

I found that each fill had it's own reaction. Nothing too awful.

My third fill hit the money. I am restricted tightly and have to be careful to chew and eat slowly. I thought about an unfill, but decided not to as I have adjusted my eating.

Best wishes all of you that are just beginning your journey. The band is a tool. Weight loss is work, but this time you won't regain if you are properly filled. yeah!

Michelle

Congratulations on your fabulous fill, grrl. And congratulations on having adjusted your eating technique. All of this sounds very fine. :bounce:

And like the Dynamo sez, best wishes to all the newbies. :biggrin1:

It is wonderful to have a place where people understand me. Thanks for being you. About the slow weight loss, you know there is a reason we are obese, it isn't only poor eating habits, lack of exercise, etc. I am amazed how "little" I can eat and not lose weight. So now, I am eating my 1200 - 1300 calories every day and exercising. I lose a pound or so every two weeks. I figure I can starve, but that puts me on a binge cycle that is destructive. So I am just "doing it my way."

Best to all,

Michelle

Hello Everyone, Been away for a couple of months, now catching up on this. I am one of the slow losers. 28 pounds since Feb. When the doctor asked how much I wanted to lose, I said to a size 12/14. I Was wearing 22/24, and 26/28. He thought that was reasonable. I wore my pants 24's so tight at the waist I had to unbutton them to sit. I figured if it hurt enough I wouldn't eat more. Now I can take them off without undoing them. Wear stuff I haven't worn in a long time. So I am seeing changes in my health and size, so it's time to stop beating myself up. I told him a size not a weight. NO MORE SCALE!! NO MORE SCALE!!

Bonnie

Boy, do I understand where you are coming from about slow weight loss. I've been on my pre-op liquid diet for 4 days and have lost 1 pound!!! At first I lost 3 pds and then today I gained 2 back. Part of my problem is lack of excersize. I have a back problem that only lets me stay on my feet for 7 minutes then it kicks in and I can't bear the pain. But I can go to Wally World and push a cart around for hours. Only thing I can figure is that I am redistributing my weight to the cart?

I don't know how to do links. I am very computer illiterate. I did

a search for it and it's called "a place for bandsters in their 60's"

It would only let me put in a place for bandsters though because

I think the search only allows so many words.

There is a place to do advanced search. I put 60's in the title and it brought me right to the thread "a place for bandsters in their 60's.

I am wondering what in the heck is going on with me. I got a fill yesterday and I swear I have less restriction, not more. If I didn't love my dr. so much, I would swear he took some out, and didn't add more. I am out of free fills so I am bummed ;)

Denise: That has happened to me before. In fact it happened the last time I got a fill. I asked about it once a while back and the fact is that he does remove everything that's in there before he adds it back. So time before last he said he put in 3 cc. and when he took it out during this last fill, he said I still had 3 cc. and that he'd add just a little more. However, it seems like I have less restriction, not more.

I talked to the dietician today and she said there is just no figuring out how the fills are going to work for you. Stress is involved, as well as lots of other physical things can have an influence. I don't mean to overstep bounds here, but she said that if you are the least bit constipated, it can have an effect as well as being bloated from certain foods or even if you are dehydrated. This complicated fill thing is pretty disappointing. It's hard to lose weight regularly when there are so many components that have an impact on your restriction and appetite.

I was just reading about the fills and it said that you don't feel the restriction until two weeks after the fill is done. Possibly that is the problem

Yea, I have heard that many times that it takes awhile for the fill to kick in. That has never been my experience. I have always noticed a big difference the next day and didn't feel like eating at all. Today I have been starving all day. I really hope something does change and I start noticing some sort of restriction. I hope I didn't stretch my pouch or something. It costs so much money to have these things checked out:whoo:;)

Hi all-

I had the instant fill restriction when I had my 3rd fill. I couldn't tell at the docs, and since the 2nd fill missed the port, we can't exactly go by amounts. I hear you BJean, I wasn't so aware that the fill process was so inexact. I was disappointed at first, but I guess you just have to keep trying and look at the lifestyle changes that you have made that are good for your health.

My appetite still fluctuates based on stress and triggers. I loved the article on the child, parent and adult. I will see if I can find that link and post it for all of you emotional eaters. Probably all of us, how can we get over 50 and be struggling with a basic 0 - 5 age phenomena "give me". I think we are really brave - heros to be confronting this here and now!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
