beboo 0 Posted September 28, 2011 Okay so really excited planning to do lapbanc go to bariatric clinic appt. and now I am totally confused. I think that the sleeve might be a better way to go. Judging by the people who have opted for the sleeve after the band I am thinking I would like to cut out the middle man(literally). Now I have to do a sleep apnia test , and EKG which is all good but a poop test arrrgghhh!! It is all worth it right. I just started my process, I am scared out of my mind to go the extra mile, with intibation, stay in hospital, longer recovery. Okay so here we go. Hope to keep in touch along the way. Next appt. tomorrow for follow up to the crazy tube they stuck down my tube to my tummy, appartently my lower intestine did not relax enough for them while they were poking it with a tube, so trying something else. Is skinny worth it? Okay I know that answer!! Skinny and healthy are!
jillw8 22 Posted September 29, 2011 I know how you feel. I originally opted for the band but after researching both procedures success rates, failure rates, complications, and follow up appointments I knew that the sleeve was right for me. It isn't right for everyone that's why we have to research it. For me this is why i chose the sleeve:1) I have a 2 hour commute to my surgeon...so monthly appointments for at least a year wast appealing 2) the band failure rate was too high for me 3) when I googled horror stories for both I only found ones on the band 4) didn't like the idea of a permanent foreign body in my abdomen 5) I wanted something that was 100% permanent. I didn't want tp go through all of this for a procedure that wiuld need life time adjustments. And 6) it seemed the most easy and natural: no foreign bodies or injections and no rerouting of my guts. These were my personal reasons. Good luck in deciding!! 1 Soup-a-Woman reacted to this
savinggrace 6 Posted September 29, 2011 It is really your decision. I initially planned on going in for lap band, like many others seen the pros and cons, and knowing how my body rejects foreign objects I went with the sleeve. For me, I couldn't be happier. Lisa :) 231 Posted September 29, 2011 Good luck in your journey! I, too, was originally planning on the band. It was after my initial orientation class that I started to consider the sleeve.
Beth323 13 Posted September 29, 2011 When looking at our options daughter and myself, The hospital stay was the same as LB The instances of complications are extremely low. The recovery is a little longer in the beginning but then not having to go monthly for fills is a big plus. Then my daughter and I had to look at our weight and the weight loss percentages each surgery averaged. We are both around 300LB ;(. LB averages 40+% of total body weight, VS 50+% and bypass 60+%. Then the chance of gaining the weight back. You can with all the surgeries. Since we have a lot to loose we chose the VS, Do the research, look at your life style, see what best fits for you. And good luck to you

smkeller 3 Posted October 2, 2011 Well, skinny is definitely worth it. I too was originally going to get the lap-band, but changed after much research to the sleeve. The lap-band surgery itself is much simpler and safer than the sleeve surgery, although both seem to be very safe. For those people that tolerate the band from the beginning, their experience of weight loss for the first year and a half is usually excellent; for those that don't, it is a nightmare. The problems with the band seem to come after the first 18 months and can and do get very serious. Many people revise to the sleeve after damaging their stomach and esophagus. On the other hand, a botched sleeve surgery is a trip to hell. It is more important, I think, to have a really good sleeve surgeon than it is to have a really good lap-band surgeon, because many problems can be fixed with the band in the early days. With the sleeve it needs to be right from the git-go. I do not recommend going to a 'clinic' for this surgery. To me it is just an unacceptable risk. Go to a hospital. Good luck.
