I had my sleeve at UCLA with Dr. Dutson. He is the other bariatric surgeon at UCLA. It was a tough few days, but I am feeling great now. Hope your surgery went good:)

Im having surgery with him on November 7th. Im happy to be getting it done at such a good hospital. How was your stay? I have to lose 8 more pounds by the 7th and im on the 1200 calorie diet and its not shedding as fast as i thought it would be since im starving ! He told me that if i didnt lose it they would cancel my surgery that morning. Did anyone else have to lose some weight with him and got cancelled?

@ apebrown - He would not even schedule me a surgery date until I lost another 10 pounds. He is so strict! Make sure you lose what he asks and dont mess around. I kept the weight off. He does not have much of a personality, but did a good job. They have a great team of nurses, anethesiologist, etc. You need to ask for apple juice (they do not just give it to you) as you get into the last day, it helps to pass gas. You are not alowed to leave until you do. Make sure you bring a robe to put over the hospital gown and slippers - you take alot of walks. Please ask if you have any other questions:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
