loveulots17lov 0 Posted July 18, 2006 did any 1 get acid reflux from the band.. if so what did you do about it?
Alexandra 55 Posted July 18, 2006 Reflux is the condition of material moving back up through the esophagus instead of down: "refluxing" upwards. In my experience, I have had that happen at times when my band has been too tight. It's not "acid" reflux, though, since there's no stomach acid involved. Is it bad? Well, it's not something you want to let continue. If it's happening, it requires treatment. In my case, loosening the band fixed it up immediately. In other cases it's caused by irritation, and a regimen of liquids for a time can help. In still other cases medication and/or behavioral modification are all that's needed. nursekathy2u 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Chronic acid reflux can lead to ulcers in your esophagus, esophagitis, reflux induced asthma and Barrett's Esophagus (changes in the lining of your esophagus that if left untreated can become precancerous or cancerous) Most of the time it is just an annoying problem but not anything you want to just try to live with. There are plenty of medications that can help with this condition. Along with lifestyle changes you can make. An unfill is also something that helps.
Carlene 12 Posted July 19, 2006 I would like to add that reflux can also lead to aspiration pneumonia, a particularly nasty type of pneumonia that can be life-threatening. You should never attempt to "live with" reflux. If you can't control it with meds, you need an unfill.
