Acid! Acid! Acid!

Recommended Posts

So, I'm 4 weeks out and considering the physical invasion of surgery I'm not too bad off. I do have an issue though. At about the 2 week mark I started having acid reflex. I've never had it before and truly feel for everyone who has it. I'm taking prilosec TWICE a day (per the doc) and I am still having trouble. food or no food and Water is bad so I'm really having to work to get that down. What gives and does it go away? Please say yes.... cause this is miserable. Any suggestions?

I am right there with you my friend. I just called my doctor again asking for him to call me in a Rx for something stronger. I am suffering as well and it started right at the 2 week mark as well. I am really hoping he calls me something in and that is works for me cuz if I have to live with this for the rest of my life it would really suck! Good luck to you and talk to your doctor about calling something else in stronger for you. Acid delays the healing and I know how painful it is the first few hours after I wake up with it, everything hurst going down, that can't be good for us.

I have had problems with acid since my surgery on 3/10/11. I am totally happy to report that at 6 months out, it became completely controlled by Prilosec twice a day. Up until then, I took Prilosec 2x/day plus ate two Tums anytime I felt the acid burn in the back of my throat. IT REALLY WILL GET BETTER!!! It would be interesting to know if, after 6 months, anyone else still has uncontrolled acid reflux.

Does anyone still have acid issues more than 6 months after surgery that cannot be controlled with medication?

Hello marVal,

I am now 3 weeks out and getting a bad taste of acid reflux also. Today, I can upon a solution that works like a charm.

2 tablespoon of Applecider Vinager mixed with 8 oz of Water.

*note: it will make you PB or throw up if the is too much blockage in your throat, but it will balance the acid out in your stomach/throat.

I did it today and it took less than 45secs to work. I had been PB for like 6 or more hours. I went to work and had to leave because it was coming up every 5 sec. But I did my research before I left, and tried t when I got home. Worked beyond belief.

Take care

I am happy to report that I found something that works for me. I take either one or two Prilosec's in the morning depending on how I feel, and then before bed I take a Zantac 150. I am happy to report that for two nights now, I have been acid reflux free! Knock on wood, lol. Good luck to all of you who are dealing with this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
