favorite protien drink

Recommended Posts

Isopure or 6 Star, mixed in either 2% milk OR fat free/0 carb milk (depending on my Calcium & fat intake for the day), blended with some combination of Peanut Butter, Butterfinger hot cocoa mix, sugar free Kahlua flavoring, sugar free hazelnut flavoring, sugar free/0 carb hot cider seasoning, or whatever else I have laying around. My favorite combinations include:

vanilla Protein powder mixed with Peanut Butter and a tiny bit of hazelnut -- tastes a lot like toffee to me.

vanilla Protein Powder mixed with cider mix and an extra pinch of cinnamon -- tastes like apple pie with melted vanilla ice cream on it to me.

chocolate Protein Powder with Butterfinger cocoa mix.

Vanilla Protein poweder with Kahlua Syrup -- tastes like a virgin mudslide.

I am using Carb Solutions drink. It is by far the best tasting drink I have found.

It has been so hard to find in stores tho......my NP told me to check out K mart, and there it was for just $4.00 a 4 pack.

I bought 24 packs of them......thats how hard it it to get.

I called the company, and they said they only sell to businesses....

I LOVE the pure Protein shots I do in the AM - or right after a work out.

They come in a test tube looking thingy. (my husband makes me put them at the bottom of the garbage can - what is up with that?!?!)

They are:

25g Protein

0 Carbs

0 Fat

0 Calories

Two swollows and it is gone! You can do up to 3 a day - I have only done one a day.

Melanne, Protein residue from shakes, etc. can really stink up a home. I have smelled my shaker once after mistakenly leaving it in my truck for a day. It smells like poop.

hi

thanks for some of the Protein drink idear

the link is to a news articile

a friend to me she hear stuff on tv this morning so i looked it up on the net to she if i could if what she was talking about

Don't put too much stock into this article. First of all, look at the date....July 18, 2006 4:21 AM. I wonder how people have successfully been banded since then. It also refers to SUPER Morbidly Obese people as being the subject of the study. I would question as to whether they all had the same co-morbidities. Anyone can come with these results (in favor of lapband or RNY) if you take people that already have a high rate of complications. It's obvious to me that this writer did not research the facts. It's also very sad that this article may have a negative impact on someone considering the band if they fail to do further research.

BTW, my favorite Protein Drink is Body Fortress in chocolate found at Wal-Mart. It has 20 g of Protein in each serving. I usually mix it with 1/2 - 3/4 banana. LOVE IT!!

Isopure is my drug of choice...delicious, but then I despise milk so I didn't like having to do 7 days of Carnation Instant Breakfast. It is a lot better in a Magic Bullet Blender though...don't know what I would do without that blender. Thanks to my friend 3 Loves who recommended it...fantastic!!

I started looking online today for this, since I want some on hand after surgery, and didn't find much. The only thing I saw on the GNC website was powders, and they come in like a 3 pound container.

Where are you all find the bottled, RTD stuff?

I strongly advise you not to take Protein Drinks unless you drink at least 2,5 litres of Water a day. Why? Because the Protein that cannot be digested is secreted through the kidneys and into the urine. It really harms the kidneys if you dont drink a sufficient amount of water.

The only Proteins I am intaking are the ones from low fat milk/yoghurt(and trickled soup) and I must say, I feel absolutely fine. There is really no need for arfiticial things. :) But that's just my opinion.

Personally, I'm thinking mainly of the two weeks on liquids right after surgery. What I remember from all the info was that they suggest Protein Drinks then only. Which is one reason I don't really want to buy a 3 lb jar of powder!

lisah25 my local GNC carries it in a RTD but they don't advertise it. They just keep it stocked on their shelves.

Myra

Thanks - I'll stop on my way home and see. I want to try some before buying a lot.

Trust me, I seriously think one could do without it. I am not quite sure what they put in that stuff - some of them contain genetically manipulated soya, and I am really a health freak, so there's no way I am drinking that. :biggrin1:

But yougurt and milk(low fat) really taste great.

The problem with Protein Shakes is that you are not advised to take them in together with stuff that has any form of carbohydrates(milk has lactose, so if you add milk to make a shake, that is a source of carbohydrates), you would gain weight.

One deciliter of low fat milk has around 40 calories and everything your body needs, from Vitamins to Proteins. I see no point in ingesting additional ones, not even in those two weeks. :biggrin1:

First of all, congratulations on your band!! :clap2: Who was your doc? I only ask b/c most of them require approx 65 g of Protein a day to prevent PCM (Protein Calorie Malnutrition)....something that would be a challenge with just milk. My doc has a recipe for the 65 daily grams made of 4 c of 1% milk and 1 c of nonfat dry milk....yucko. :huytsao Not my thing so I do other forms of protein. So, in a sense, I agree that milk does contain protein. Do you get your 65 grams a day? :) I agree with you on the protein being difficult on your kidneys, but that is only if you take in too much at one time. If what you say is true, it's a very interesting thing that perhaps I should bring up with my doc b/c he also has me taking vitamins.

I googled Isopure and ordered it online from a company. I couldn't find it locally. It is a little spendy but well worth the price. I choose fruit punch and grape. Many companies sell it online. GNC didn't even carry it here where I live.

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
