I live in the Dallas area and would love to talk to someone regarding lp. Insurance will not pay for mine because I have 55 lbs to loose and thet don't consider that obest, but I've tried everything and not happy with what i see in the mirror, not anything fits plus the fact that I'm depressed all the time. I'm thinking about going to Dr Sanchez in Mexico and getting some "flack" from family members so I need some help from other who have done it. ah:help:

I am a new bandster and was self pay - but had it done here in the US. However, I've heard some very good reports about the Mexico docs. Keep doing your research and checking here. I bet some of those Mexico bandsters will help you out.

I went to Mexico and had Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey do my lapband. I have lost about 23 pounds since May but am having my band filled tomorrow since I have quit losing. I recommend Monterrey. The big hospital is better than a 4 star hotel. In fact, I've never been anyplace that fancy. They do good work. The only problem is the flight down there. We went on American and they were totally uninterested in their passengers. If you can go by Mexicana, I recommend that.

bitteroldhag, thanks for the info and glad to hear your trip to Mexico turned out great. I'm looking into Dr. Sanchez and hear great things about him. Have you had any problems since you've been back and please let me know how your fill goes. I have so many questions. Are you in the Dallas area as well? :clap2:

hogue, with "only" 55 pounds to lose, you may, indeed, need to have your lap band done in Mx. It really depends on your BMI. Do you know what your BMI is? My best advice on going to MX for surgery is to be SURE you have a local band doc who will give you fills and take care of you should you run into problems. Also, I have heard many good things about Sanchez. I have lost 60 of my 95 excess pounds and it's made a huge difference in the way I feel. So I don't discount the importance of your "only" 55 pounds to lose. It's alot! I know. Research well. Be sure the band is what you want. Know about life after banding. Be informed! Your good research will be good for your family as well. Maybe you'll get less "flack"? Good luck!!!!

I doubt you'll get insurance approval in the U.S. if you are only 55 pounds overweight. Many people have been banded in Mexico with good results but they accept U.S. insurance so you'll need to self-pay. Good luck in your research.

the best to me , how has the band it self changed your life since you've had it? Did you have a hard time adjusting to it, and any other problems. Yes, I know that I'm going to have to go to MX Dr Sanchez for the LB and do self pay. Of course I'm not looking forward to spending the money, bust after my husbands death in 98, due to hospitals mistakes and all that i have been thru, plus the weight that I can not get off and what it has done to me emotionly it's worth it. I want to feel good about me again and my body. Now its time for me. Sorry I got on the band wagon! I know 55 lbs to some my not seem like a lot but to me at this stage in my life it seems like 555lbs. and its still a big decision to make and I'm sure a life changing experience. Athena

I am scheduled for my lapband next Friday, July 28 with Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Acuna Mexico. I will fly to San Antonio on Thursday with my hubby. Our tickets are 44 each way so we got a great price. Feel free to email me privately on here and we can chat.

Athena. I was "only" 242 at my high weight, which felt like hundreds of pounds more than that. I did manage to lose about 20 pounds on my own by going to Curves and exercising regularly. But my eating/portion control was a huge problem. I knew if I could just quit eating so dadgum much, I'd be okay. I found out about lap bands and found this site and knew it was for me. My hubby agreed that is the band worked properly for me, I'd surely lose. So far, so good. I weighed 182 this morning and have been really struggling to lose more weight. My band is not very tight, so I'm trying to really make it work without another fill. It's hard. I can eat 1800 calories a day if I'm not careful with what I choose. And, truthfully, I was eating 1800 calories a day at surgery weight and maintaining. These past weeks I have cut back to 1200-1550 calories a day and I'm hoping it will show up on the scale. It's work. No doubt about it. But it's work I am now able to do. My little band helps me so much. At my fill level, I have to eat slowly and carefully, chew really well, other than that I could get away with murder on my food choices and even with the amounts. The biggest difference for me is that I can no longer shovel and shovel massive quantities before my head catches up with me.

I have what's called an NSV thread. It's a thread I started so I can track my Non-Scale Victories. You can zip through that and get a glimpse of my journey. Others here have NSV threads, too. Life IS better after losing weight!

Please make sure you know what you are getting into before you do this. I have had good success with my band, and plan on having even more! I have no regrets.

Here's the link to my NSV thread. Hope it helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
