I'm only 11 days post op but looking forward to food again.

I was required to do a 2 week pre op liquid diet of 3 Protein Shakes and 2 yogurts. Now, after surgery, the surgeon told me today for the best weight loss results, he asks his patients to stay on that diet for 4 more weeks.

Here's the catch....he pushes his 'special' expensive Protein powder.

What was everyone eating at 2 weeks out? 3? 4?

If it's best for my body, then ok. But if he is just trying to push his drink, I would like to start adding things into my diet at 2 weeks...maybe pureed cottage cheese

Any thoughts?

im almost 5 weeks out and i am eating pretty much anything without problems. the first week i stuck to most things liquid...then the second i added some stuff like cottage cheese, yogurt, Soups, (split pea Soup felt the best on my new tummy) then after the 2 weeks i started adding in one thing at a time making sure to chew really well. i never blended anything. i only have Protein Shakes if im on the go and dont have time to get anything else. i have been able to eat out at resturants as well. i usually order off the kids menu. most places dont make a big deal about it...except chinese buffet. i went in and told them that my hubby was getting the buffet and i was going to get a to go plate and have them weigh it and eat it there. they said that i couldnt do that...so i pulled the guy to the side and told him that i had a surgery that made my tummy really small and that i couldnt eat very much and wasnt going to pay full price for a few tablespoons worth of food. after that he said it was ok. i went and got what i wanted and took it up to be weighed...lol my lunch cost was $2.15, and i still had some left overs that i took home with me for later. my hubby laughed and called me a cheap date.

i think the doc is just trying to do the same thing everybody is trying to do...make more money. you dont need to buy his shakes. as for speeding up weight loss....i didnt do all the Protein shakes and i have already lost 27 pounds since my surgery. im happy with that! hehe

good luck to you

My doc required a month of liquids--At week 2, I could have Protein Shakes (any kind), milk, cream Soups, yogurt, pretty much anything I could get through a strainer. Week 3--I added cottage cheese, pureed Beans, soft-boiled eggs. Week 4--Anything except raw veggies I could stick in a blender and turn into a puree. I'd stick to you doc's plan overall, maybe get a different Protein. GNC will let you return them if you don't like them after you get them home.

I am two weeks out and am allowed to have almost anything pureed. I think I have been fairly lucky to not have many problems adjusting to new foods. I find it hardest though to get both the 700-1000 calories plus my liquids in, it seems like every day something is sacraficed. I am down 12lbs since pre-surgery wieght and 17lbs since post surgery weight. I weighed more leaving the hospital than going in lol. Next week I am allowed some eggs and refried Beans.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
