Can I choose the VSG with Kaiser Permanente

Recommended Posts

Who was the surgeon, at which kaiser, and which one did he suggest? Did u have your surgery yet?

Not sure who this question is directed at. But I was very happy with Dr. Mun at the South Bay facility. But I have friends that have had Dr. Zane and I hear he is very good too. Someone here also posted that he works out of OC as well.

Kaiser's program is VERY GOOD. And they are very picky on the doctors they hire. So know that you are with a very good baratric surgeon if you go through Kaiser...

I have 3 more weeks to finish the options plan. I'm also at the Orange Health Pavillion. It's been a great journey so far. I guess once you are approved for the classes it's a for sure thing. I hope so. They told us in the program that Kaiser Doctors are doing the surgeries at the South Bay location and that the process is pretty quick. So I'm hoping I get mine done in January.

Good luck with your journey!

I had attended the Options class at the Orange Pavilion and was approved and referred to Dr. Leport's office in Fountain Valley. I had surgery with Dr. Kelly Francis and have had no problems. She is awesome. Good luck

That's great! Thanks for the info, I still need to see what my option for surgeons will be. After your last options class, how soon did you have the surgery? Did everything go smoothly with the referrals?

I'm going through WLS Kaiser and have my date on 10/17/11. When I had my first appointment with the surgeon, he discussed the options with me and asked which surgery I was interested in. We agreed and it's set. You always have a choice. If you are not a good candidate for one, then they would probably refuse because it's for your own health and safety but you don't have to do anything you don't want to. Good Luck!

I am also with Kaiser. The one I go to is in Downey. That is where I attended 12 weeks of the option classes. Since they don't do bariatric surgery there, I am having it done at Kaiser South Bay, in Harbor City. By Dr. Edward Mun, who I understand is one of the best surgeons in the country for this type of surgery.

I went in, wanting the RNY, but Dr. Mun thought the sleeve would be best for me because I am considered high risk do to some other health factors.

So yes, you do get to choose. But a GOOD doctor will also tell you his/her opinion and help guide you into a surgery that is best for you to succeed!

Good Luck to you!

P.S. Sorry about the double post! I hadn't realized I had already commented on this thread...

@@bettyboop I know you had the surgery years ago but I'm thinking of going with Dr Mun...was he a stickler for you losing 10% of the weight before doing the surgery?

I chose Dr. Mun as well. How long did it take from consultation with the surgeon to your scheduled surgery date? My consultation is on June 8th. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
