lovePINK 31 Posted September 23, 2011 This will be my 2nd time doing the psych evaluation because the 1st time I chose to do it with my own therapist and she wrote on the report that I was depressed, not motivated, in an abusive relationship etc... this time around I'm going with the psychologist that my surgeons office recommends.. I am completely nervous. I have a fear that since I had went through a depression/anxiety phase and stopped seeing my therapist (that screwed me over with the first eval) that I am going to be automatically denied by my insurance (Medicaid). How do I get over this fear? I don't want to be viewed as unstable, unmotivated, depressed etc... I just don't wanna screw this up a 2nd time.
CT Fats 82 Posted September 23, 2011 The therapists in your doctors system have a good working relationship with eachother. They WANT you to get approved. They are really looking to see that you are ready for this change and that nothing is standing in your way. Play up that you have a great support system and are ready for a change. We have been overweight a looong time who wouldn't be depressed.
ILKrista 36 Posted September 24, 2011 When I had my psych eval, they also decided that I was depressed. However, this is not something that should prohibit you from getting the sleeve. My understanding is that they are supposed to be making sure that you are not unstable or have some mental unbalance that would prohibit you from being able to make this sort of decision rationally. Good luck! Krista
TurtleGirl49 0 Posted September 26, 2011 Hello LovePINK, Maybe the therapist thought that by saying those things she was helping your case for the surgery. I would hope that was the case. But, don't focus on what happened the first time. It is over now. So, when you do your second eval., Be really positive and upbeat. Tell them that you have made the choice to do this for your health and your wellbeing. Stress that you have a good support system. If you don't have a friend or someone, I suggest you get a couple of people you can trust for your support. Let them know you have joined this support group. Tell them that you will continue your therapy after your surgery to help with any anxiety or depression that may come with weight-loss. Don't focus on anything negative in your life during the session. You will be just fine...I know it! Once you have your surgery and lose the weight your self esteem is going to soar and you will no longer accept any abuse from anyone. Keep pushing on and I will be praying for you.
