Meat... bandster style...

Recommended Posts

I can eat ground turkey and ground meat, but solid pieces of chicken, or steak will not work. Even when I "coat" it with something.

Do you have any suggestions? recipes?

Sometimes I feel that the ground meat will go thru the band too quickly? Am I insane?.... oh wait, we know I am.... What do you guys think?

I typically stay with filet mignon when it comes to steak. Anything else is asking for trouble.

I also don't eat chicken breast unless it's the canned kind.

Good luck!

I slow cook my chicken. Anything else is risky. I also do thighs as they are more tender than breasts. And never if it has been reheated in the micro. It's safer for me to eat it cold.

Grill chicken breast can be pretty dry if it is cooked too long. Try tenderizing the chicken breast with a meat tenderizer before you cook (grill) and don't cook it too long. Chicken strips grilled are not as dry. I always eat boneless, skinless chicken thighs which are wonderful and not too dry....... But I am not banded yet so I don't know how this will work with the band. I will find out in September.....

I can eat steak as long as it is filet mignon because it is so tender. chicken is always a guessing game, some days I can eat it and sometimes I can't. If I see it looks real dry, I don't even bother trying.

By the way, I don't think you are insane! :heh:

I cheat - use the food processor a lot, last night we had pork chops and I did this - just want to be sure I don't accidently scarf too big a piece of meat. Also do this with beef, steaks etc. I don't over cook my steaks, just make them about medium, more than that makes them tough.

I marinate chicken breast in lemon juice, garlic, cumin and a bit of olive oil and it is real tender.

Also with a beef roast, round or whatever, I put a can of mushroom Soup with it, the gravy is divine and either slow bake it or use the crockpot.

I love my crock pot. Think I may get it going today. I am just so scared to get stuck again (Chicken is the devil).

Thank you for all of the ideas, please keep them coming!

I sometimes have difficulty also. This morning, my neighbor told me his cook tenderizes his steaks by wrapping them in papaya for 2 days. I know they are tender and don't cause problems for me

When I went online, I guess it is a meat tenderizer. I take papaya enzyme tablets when my stomach is acting up. I do have papaya trees in my yard. I will have to try tenderizing steaks next.

I just made something that someone might like. Easy to eat.

2 lbs ground turkey, 1 large jalapeno seeded and diced, 1/2 cup cilantro. Cook all together with some garlic pepper. Yummy! Serve with a little avacado... goodness!!!:hungry:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
