My first throw up since I was sleeved exactly 3 weeks ago!

Recommended Posts

Well today I actually threw up my lunch! (sorry if tmi) I was actually bummed out because even though I have been nauseous before I have managed to ignore it and let it go down. I'm blaming the fact that I probably ate too fast. Had some chicken salad with carrots & peas. I did feel better when it happened, but I was shaky and looked pale. Wonder if anyone has gone through this? So for supper I just drank a smoothie. I was also wondering if anyone else gets bloated after they eat? It seems I notice my tummy feeling big & bloated everytime I eat :(. I have also gained some weight which has me bummed out. I was 283 last friday and today I was 287! Is this normal guys!? :: sighs :: hopefully my sleeve doesn't let me down like all my other diets. I just started excercising yesterday, dancing that is. Sorry I'm just going on bahahaha. I'm just going through so many emotions :(

I think what you are feeling is completely normal. Speaking for myself only, diets have let me down so many times before so why is this one going to be any different? I lost 28 lbs in the past 4 weeks including 2 week pre-op & 2 week post-op. But, the last 3 days there has been NO movement on the scale whatsoever. It is hard to stay motivated to keep drinking & walking, especially when food is the way I managed stress in the past. Now, that is not an option.

I am trying to track my Protein, fluids & walking today to see if it seems to help with the scale movement (down, that is).

I get to start eating mushies next Tuesday and while I can't wait, I am also a bit nervous. I wonder if I will feel full or if I will eat too much and get sick.

Hope you get better. I'm here if you need to vent.

Thanks Rebel. Congrats on your mushie phase! I was so excited when I started mushies! As far as being nervous, its completely normal to feel that way! I was so scared about "how does it feel to feel full?". I can only tell you listen to your body and when you feel full stop. I have learnedd that the hard way. Asfar as the weight, it is still at a stall but I have noticed some inches coming off. So thats good rght? Lol I'm trying to not stress about it anymore. Just push on. My Water intake is more and my excercising is going good so its bound to come off soon I hope. :) good luck with your journey amd same goes to you. If you have questions, want to vent or anything. Im here! :)

Hello. How long ago was your surgery? I had my surgery June 1st. I felt good for a while. I've lost 50 lbs. so far. But this past week or two I have been really neause's. I can hardly eat or drink anything. I'm not sure what is up, but it's very upseting. :(

I believe the other posters have had surgery recently. You might want to post a thread just for you since your surgery was a few months ago. Hopefully you get some answers from others. I haven't had surgery yet. You might want to consider calling your nutritionist or surgeon.

i have thrown up a few times. usually because i forget and i eat to fast. the weird part is that it doesnt hurt to throw up anymore. also it tastes the same as it did going down. mabye because of all the acid reducers...so there really isnt that much acid for it to mix with and so none of the nasty taste. also when i throw up i dont get those horrible spasms from it. i just feel like i need to throw up and so i got to the bathroom and kinda clench my stomach muscles and out it comes.

as for gaining the weight, its just Water. there is no way you gained that much without it being water. you have to eat 3500 calories in order to gain a pound, and i doubt that you were able to eat enough to gain 4! its hard for us to even get 3500 calories in in a week in the begining....so cheer up...the next time you get on the scale you will have lost all that water and then some actual pounds and you will be jumping for joy! keep smiling and thinking happy thoughts and soon you'l be flying on cloud nine :)

Hi Jenosie,

My sleeve was done almost 3 weeks ago. Dont get upset, just push on and continue eating, drinking healthy. I might call your doctor or nutritionist just to double check everything is ok. Keep your head up :)

H iSassygirl,

Thanks for your input. Now I really wonder how many calories I was consuming before surgery because I could easily gain 4lbs a day prior to surgery. I'm just hoping for the best. Im trying to use this surgery the most I can to help me, just learning how to eat different and the new signals my body gives me is a challenge. But if everyone can do it, then me too! :) thanks

Hi yikeit,

wow I'm glad your sleeve saved your life! I wish you the best and hope they find no cancer still there. As far as vomiting everyday doesn't sound very good. I myself eat fast also but I'm trying to listen to my tummy because I really hate the feeling of feeling sick afterwards. Dont look at the scale everyday. I know its hard not to, but it will become your enemy. :/ I really hope everything turns ok and wish you the best:)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
