Hey everyone! I'm lala and I recently went to an informational meeting with the surgeons at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village, IL. I have sent in the paperwork and am waiting to hear back from the insurance company. I have a consultation scheduled for June 5th. I hope I clear all my tests so I can get the lapband soon! I have been researching WLS for over a year and have decided to take the plunge after a year of infertility. Wish me luck!

I wish - the numbers read like this: starting weight/current weight/goal weight

So, I started at 303, have lost 96.5 pounds to get to 206.5, and still have 71.5 to go.

No secrets here - I make nutritious choices 75-85% of the time, and very, very occasionally hit the gym or walk or something.

I am not a shining example of speed, but I'm steady and healthy and happy and not feeling deprived. I could "work harder" at it, but then I'm afraid that once I stop "working at it" then it will come back.

This way I am just being what I consider to be "normal" - not doing anything special, just eating less without hunger thanks to the band. So as long as I keep my current restriction, and keep doing the same thing, the 96.5 pounds should be gone forever.

Those people who diet and exercise like crazy will keep their weight off, too - as long as they keep eating and exercising the same way they did to lose. Most people can't keep that up for the rest of their lives.

I'm doing what I think I can do for the rest of my life. To lose more faster, I will have to "work harder" - either eat less, exercise more, or a combination of both. But as soon as I stop doing those things, the weight would creep back on.

I want to see where I get by doing what I'm doing. Once I have stopped losing for a really, really, really long time, I will evaluate if I am willing/able to make further healthy changes that I will do "forever".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
