Starting my pre-op diet today!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am so excited and it is all becoming very real! Today I am starting my 2 week pre-op diet! Any suggestions or motivations for the next 2 weeks other than this will lead to surgery which will lead to a healthier lifestyle?

I'm in the same boat with you, I started my pre-op Monday 9/19 and will have surgery 10/1. The first day wasn't bad, but not sure if I am eating correctly. Here is what I had that day.

Breakfast - Protein shake with 1 cup strawberries

lunch - Protein Shake with 1 cup strawberries

dinner - cup with steak, chicken sausage mixture.

snack - 100 calorie count Ritz Snack

- 60 calorie pudding

I was not required to diet two weeks pre op but doing it to help with next week with liquid diet. What are you eating?

You guys are lucky you get actual food with your pre-op diet. Mine consists of 4 Protein Shakes per day with all of the SF drinks and Jello or popsicles you can eat/drink. I have 6 days left on this and my advice would be read a book or find a hobby that will keep your hands occupied so you aren't looking for something to do with them. For me that would usually mean finding a snack  . Good luck and the 2 weeks does fly by!

Good luck to all!smile.gif

Exciting!!!

I'm going to Aceves and he only requires a low carb diet for a week and only if you're over BMI 40. I'm going to do it anyway though, so I'll feel better on our trip to MX. I'm going to start a week from today!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
