I sip slow, I just wet my tongue still when every liquid goes down, it hits my stomach so hard i can feel the fluids moving to the botom and then the air it just moved travel up slowly causing discomfort and stops in the back of my throat. then the frothing begins and this gas sits there for about an hour. i dont want to drink anything especially Water. Will this ever go away? Is there a medication I can take to stop or ease this problem? will this happen for the rest of my life? will the same happen with puree or solid foods?Im so miserable now thinking I made the wrong decision.

Also did anyone come out of surgery with a sore throat. My throat has been sore since my surgery on Sept 15th. The discomforts is making me miserable.

hi there- my surgery was sept 14th and I'm here to tell u that it does get better. here's a couple of things that helped me. a daily pepcid ac (recommended by my doc for the first 6 weeks), gas-x strips ( recommended by my doc for the first 2 weeks), walking, drinking diluted fruit juices or Gatorade the first few days instead of trying to get Water down, drinking sitting up or standing, and lastly, PATIENCE. I THINK THE LAST THING WAS THE HARDEST FOR ME. Its true what they say, each day it gets a little better. hope this is helpful. you're on the right track now. you can do it.

You are completely normal. In the hospital, when I would drink Water I would feel almost pain. I talked to the doc about it and he said it is normal. It's like putting something on a wound...ouch. It will get better....and so will the gas. Just hang in there...I am 3 weeks out and feel so much better!

yep...totally normal. 4 weeks post op now and i can drink like almost normal again. i was a gulper prior to surgery so that was hard to adjust to. but now i can drink pretty much normally. i freeze my Water and drin from the bottle as it thaws to help me remember to slow down. no pain anymore unless i drink to much at once. then it just makes me have to burp if i do it to fast.

the soar throat is because of the tube they put in your throat during surgery. totally normal and will go away very soon.

you will get past it and will rejoice in your choice soon enough. just be patient! :)

Talk to your surgeon about going on a PPI, I take Nexium twice daily, plus Zantac. Gas strips are wonderful. Also you might need a different temperature of Water. Some tolerate hot, some cold, some room temp, everyones body is different.

With the sore throat, it's from being intubated. It will go away soon.
