Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Just a little piece of advise :)

Recommended Posts

Go out and buy yourself a couple of pieces of clothes that fit you perfectly. Even if you are not at goal or are just part of the way there. It is a feel good thing to do. I know we walk around in our "fat" clothes because there is no doubt that we are going to lose more weight and eventually just have to buy more, but here is the thing, sometimes you just need to hear that you are doing a great job. People will notice even if you are wearing your loose baggy clothes but it is so much more apparent when you dress in stuff that actually fits. Remember a couple of days ago I broke down and had no choice but to buy some pants? Well this week I have been wearing them and you know what, I can't tell you how many people asked if I was losing weight, or said how great I looked, or came up to me and sincerely asked me how I was doing it and if I had tips for them. It made me feel great to be noticed for my hard work, I know this is easy for some, but for some it is still hard work even with our wonderful tool the sleeve. What made me feel even better was telling an aquaintance at work who is obese how I truly lost the weight. She asked me a million questions about my research on the different procedures out there and how and when I realized I had to do this. So a my little piece of advise is as you lose weight, buy yourself something to wear that fits and looks good. Go to a thrift store, go to the sales racks or where ever. It will make you feel good and you just might help someone along the way too.

amen!

i went to fashion bug last sunday. they are going out of business here and have everything marked down. they carry big sizes of everything. i bought 2 pair of fashion jeans that fit now....size 16! and then i bought 6 other pairs of jeans sizes 14 down to size 10.....get this, all of the jeans that are normally 50-60 dollars were only 6 dollars each!

i couldnt help myself. not only did i buy jeans but they also had nice capri pants that were only 2 dollars each, and sexy lacy underwear that were 1-2 dollars each. i spent 80 dollars and walked out of there with 450 dollars worth of clothes. it felt great.

the lady at the check out had a weird look on her face as to why i bought all of those different sizes, but i explained that i have lost 70 pounds and plan on losing a lot more and if i can get them at this price why not buy it now! plus having them in my closet just waiting for me to fit into them is an inspiration all on its own.

they also had all of their jewelry marked down as well and for the first time since i was a teenager i was able to buy a couple of those 3 layered necklaces that used to be either to small for my fat neck and ended up being chokers, or just didnt plain reach around my fat neck at all. i too those home and tried them all on and no problem. i love it!

get stuff that makes you feel good now! it is a wonderful thing!

im glad you posted on this raine :)

I love Fashion Bug! I wish I could go to one that had deals like that!

There are a lot of good deals out there with clearance sales and thrift stores. I've gotten stuff at the thrift store that was like brand new for a couple of dollars.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
