Hi Holiday!

I'm mostly excited but a little nervous. Right now I really just want to get in, have the surgery and be on my way! You know? Enough thinking about it, I just want it done!!!

As far as preparation goes, I'm reading as much as I can on here. I like the "post op" board so I can read about what people experience right after surgery. I've also read the boards where people ask for costco or grocery store lists and everyone suggests their favorite things. I've kept a huge list so I have some sort of ideas to choose from. I also found this board where people were posting what they ate that day, I took a lot of notes from there just to get ideas of what to eat so I'm not eating the same thing every day. I also found a list of things to bring to the hospital so I'm running through that list making sure I have everything.

I'm kind of a list maker. If anyone wants copies, I can share! :)

Look forward to hearding from the rest of our October friends!

Too funny, Lisa, me too! I have a list for what to bring to the hospital, what to get at the store before I go, what to do until then (organize clothes, make homemade chicken and beef broth and freeze in individual containers, make sure to have clean sheets ;)). Got lists of what to eat, like you, lots to choose from so I don't get bored in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. I'm lucky my doc doesn't require a pre-op diet, but I'm still gonna do a low-carb, low-fat for 2 weeks before the surgery, just cause I want to do whatever I can without suffering. For those that had the two-week liquid diet, I feel for ya!!! Man.....torture.

SOOOOOO freakin' excited to go on this journey with you guys!

Hello Lisa and Chris! So glad to connect with you. It will be good to have buddies along the way. :)

I have been doing the same - making lists, pouring over the information on the boards, and stocking the house with all of the must-haves. Something fun I've discovered are the youtube video diaries those who have gone before us made. It is a trip seeing these brave people shrink before your eyes. Very inspiring. And there is some terrific information about what items people really use in the days after surgery that have helped me.

Lisa, I'm with you on the waiting. I'd like to just get on with it already. I can hardly focus at work for looking up info and thinking about my preparations. I'm not telling anyone at work up front. I won't lie if they ask, mostly because I'm a terrible liar. LOL I am actually anxious to get to the 2 week diet (September 27th) because it just puts me one step closer.

Anyway, thanks for saying hello. Good luck!

Good morning!

Hope you both are doing well!

Chris, I'm so glad you reminded me about making Soup and freezing it I read that somewhere and completely forgot about it! I need to get on that. I think it's funny that we're both "list makers". :)

Holiday, I like watching the youtube videos too! I even watched videos on how the surgery is done. Kind of yucky but I'm glad I watched it.

I went to GNC yesterday and bought some Protein powder (I'm really not excited about Protein drinks ... need to work on my attitude a little hahaha!). I don't remember the name of it but the guy that helped me assured me that this was a good one and it was on sale and had low calories/carbs/fat and high Protein. I also bought some Muscle milk light from costco because that was on my list from my surgeon. When I walked into GNC the guys comes up to me and asks if he can help me. I tell him that I'm having Bariatric surgery and ... and he goes oh you need protein right? LOL, clearly I wasn't the first one to come into the store looking for the same thing!

Guess what? We're all one day closer to being sleeved!

Hey, guys! So i've seen a couple of the Youtube 'chronicles'. Which ones are your favorites? I'd like to find a good one to start with and follow...some of the ones I've seen haven't been very helpful, but I know there are tons out there!

Any suggestions would be great!

A couple more days closer!! Whoo hooo!!

Hi Chris, I don't have anything specific that I watch. I will just put in Vertical Sleeve or VSG or something like that in the search window and see what pops up. I can't remember names or anything to share.

Yes, we are a few days closer ... seems like time is FLYING by right now! WooHoo!

There are a ton of Youtube diaries out there. Here are some of my favorites:

Kellawanda

AtarisStar

luvenit1979

Maryposa1978

I started my 2 week diet today! One more pre-op testing appointment (EKG, chest x-ray, and bloodwork) and I'm all set.

I'm like you, let's get on with this thang!

I am big list maker / follower too, Lisa. If I didn't use lists, I'd be going "huh?" a lot more than I do now!

Holiday - I would love your "what to eat" list. I found the "what to take to the hospital" list and have added a couple things to it. Last night I watched some you tube vids by a gal who recorded her progress in great detail on the the day of her surgery and her two days in the hospital. One thing she said was to take a very comfortable sports bra (front closure type) b/c otherwise your tee-tahs lay on your incision and that hurts. I don't know about the rest of yall, but that is gonna be a big help for me as mine are fluffier and heavier than ever at the moment.

I also added face wipes b/c I can imagine my face will feel slimy or dirty after surgery and that'd be gross.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
