Scared - They Want to Do a Gallbladder Unltrasound

Recommended Posts

I just received a call and they want to do an ultrasound on my gallbladder?

I had blood work done about a week ago and my liver enzymes and other tests came back pretty high.

I am only 26days out of my VSG surgery. I am scared I may have to have another surgery.

I am not progressing well with my VSG. I am only down 3lbs at this point. I am sinking further into despair by the day.

Tigerlily,

I'm so sorry to hear you may need to have your gallbladder removed. I have been afraid that would happen to me too! But many people on this forum have had to have their gallbladders removed after VSG and they are all doing well. Even one of our VSG success story stars, Tiffykins, has had her gallbladder removed, so if you have to have the operation, know that you are in good company!

I'm not sure what's up with your weight loss. Ask your nutritionist and your doctor for their opinion. If you are not keeping a food, Water, and exercise journal, start one. They will need that info to evaluate what's going on with your weight loss.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery if you do need to have your gallbladder removed!

Lynda

I understand the fear but gall bladder surgery isn't a big deal. They might keep you a night if they think you are in a weak position due to having just been sleeved, but typcially it's outpatient. I took my husband for his and he was in and out of surgery and in recovery before I could walk to the cafeteria and back. Of course, this is all assuming they do it laproscopically.

Try not to worry about it too much. Almost all adults have gall stones. The issue is if any of them travel into the ducts and cause a gall bladder attack. Are you ill? Is it causing you a lot of pain? An actual attack is nothing to play with and my husband was so miserable he would have let them take it in the ER!

As said, a lot of folks go through this. It's not fun but it's also not a horrible surgery anymore. Fingers crossed it's nothign major for you.

I know how upsetting another surgery could be for you. I am 2 months out and am having trouble with my gallbladder and need surgery. Are you in pain? My pain is to the point where I am finally looking forward to surgery. It is frustrating to think I just recovered from surgery and now need another. But if it is necessary to be healthy then it is worth it. Be brave and sending good thoughts your way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
