SKCUNNINGHAM 298 Posted September 20, 2011 Prior to my surgery, I couldn't get down on the floor without using support, nor could I get back up again without using one or more pieces of furniture to lever myself back up. I avoided doing things that required me to get on the floor. Yesterday at work, I was facilitating a meeting. Think of two big flip charts on easels, several multi-colored markers, and flip charts (filled out) sticking on the walls. Towards the end of the meeting, we needed to score each item on each flip chart. I had stuck them to the walls so they went almost down to the floor. Without thinking, as we were recording the scores on the items on the lower flip charts, I dropped to my knees to be able to reach the lower ones. I had a marker in one hand and a piece of paper in the other, and just knelt. I moved (walked on my knees) that way for a few feet, recording the scores. Then I rose back up to my feet. I did rest my hand on the easel so I wouldn't knock it over as I rose back up - but I didn't use it for support. I didn't even think about it when I did it. A friend who has been very supportive through this whole process pointed it out to me when we were back in my office. Yea! I have mobility back!
Raine 170 Posted September 20, 2011 OMG that is great! Feels wonderful to be able to do things without thinking about how we will manage them, they just come naturally! Congratulations, great NSV.
ravenjeh 16 Posted September 20, 2011 Wow, I know that feels great! I had to take a CPR class last week, and when I knelt over the mannequin, I was not able to hold all my weight up while pinching the nose at the same time- I never could get the mannequin to "breathe". My thighs were to big to properly kneel and my gut was hanging down in the way. Very uncomfortable. I can't wait to be where you are!

Rootman 1,101 Posted September 21, 2011 Congrats! For me this was a defining moment - getting stuck on the floor and not able to get back up without painfully crawling to a piece of furniture for support to haul myself back up with. I KNEW I had to do something about it.
Nichelle 21 Posted September 22, 2011 WOW!! Such a great feeling to be free of your own body. I was just saying how much easier it is for me to now get down on the floor to play with my niece. Before, it was like a decision whether or not I really wanted to get down because it was so difficult to get back up. Plus I could barely cross my legs once I did get down there and it was almost painful. Now I play with my little Allison without a thought in my mind about my body not being able to handle getting back up off the floor. WTG!!
