Self pay FL vs Mexico

Recommended Posts

I am researching where I want to do the gastric sleeve since I am self pay. I have had a couple doctors quote me anywhere between 11k and 15k here in Florida and a couple of quotes from Mexico that the ad says 5k but people end up paying way more, close to 10k.

My husband said for only a couple thousand difference, he rather me have it here in Fl for 11k. How much was your surgery in mexico??

Thank you

I too paid $4500 with Dr Almanza at Jerusalem Clinic Tijuana MX, I however no longer recommend this facility due to issues that have developed. This site is chock full of recommendations. of other sites.

If you can get it in the States for that little I would highly recommend taking advantage of it. Be sure to investigate the site, the doctor and get recommendations.

Its not just a couple of thousand cheaper, its almost double to get it in Florida. I went to Dr Ramos Kelly too and I paid $5500. He now charges $5700 I think but still worth it. I spent exactly $5600 after tipping and all. No where near $10,000. Of course you would have airline charges but even that wont be over $1000.00 if you plan ahead. Good luck though whatever direction you take.

I paid $5000 for Dr. Fernando Garcia Govea. The only additional was for airfare for two, tips, and souveniers. Total I woudn't say more than $600.

I had surgery with dr Kelly on 09/02 and mine was $5560.00 + 382.00 for airfare and about $100.00 spending money. They even had to get my diabetes under control and cut out some scar tissue from a lap band I had years ago and didn't charge me a dime more.

I paid $8750 to have surgery by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I have no support at home, so I wanted the recovery days in the hospital, plus he has a stellar reputation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
