Combining LB surgery with other surgery

Recommended Posts

I have not posted in a very long time so here it is. I found out the day before my initial appointment that I am pregnant. I am very happy but it almost depressed me that I would have to wait until December now to even think about having the LB surgery. But since I will probably be having tubes tied or something, would anyone advise or know if LB surgery can be included with another surgery? It would be nice for insurance to pick up a little of the cost if having a necessary surgery simultaneously. But I also have concern about how I will feel having LB surgery and newborn at home. Will I be able to take care of the baby? I know this is alot of questions but any help you can offer willb e great. Thanks.

I didn't have a simultaneous surgery when I had my Lap Band placed, but I did have 3 c-sections and had to care for babies after MAJOR surgery. The Lap Band is a piece of cake compared to those births. I have also had my tubes tied- not so bad either. I think if you have both done at the same time, you should be fine. It all depends on what the doc wants to do, of course. Congrats on the pregnancy !!

Your doctor may not want to do the band surgery when he ties your tubes, because of the liquid/mushy/solids diet progression while you are breast feeding. If you aren't breast feeding, it might not be such a concern. Also, I don't think they'll do a procedure that requires general anesthesia when you will be breastfeeding either.

Can't hurt to ask your doctor though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
