12 Days Post Op and No Problems

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on September 6 in Dallas and have had no problems at all. I stayed in the hospital one night and required very little pain medication while there. I had no problem urinating or swallowing. Since I've been home I've not taken even one dose of the pain meds which surprised me but I have taken things slowly. I have gotten a lot of rest and my husband has been a saint....DISCLAIMER: I am past the age of having little kids to take care of which I know would be a game changer!

I am on thin liquids for 3 weeks but I fill up very, very fast. Since I'm not a sweet eater the Protein Shakes are pretty gaggy to me and I prefer chicken buillion and pureed homemade Soups. Luckily, I have a VitaMix which liquifies things very easily so they flow through a strainer. I also sip a little Bloody Mary mix in addition to my Water to keep my salt craving at bay.

I have had no issues with Constipation or nausea but I did begin experiencing the sharp "tearing/searing" pain in my left side about 10 days post surgery. This is due, of course, to the healing of the largest incision and will take about 3/4 weeks but it comes and goes and is not dibilitating. When it hits though it hurts like a SOB for a few seconds before it's gone. I find if I adjust my position it subsides. I also have been able to discontinue my medication for acid reflux.

I believe the key is to follow what Dr. Nicholson outlined for me to the letter. It's pretty simple and I have to be patient.

Prior to my surgery I read numerous positive posts that helped me understand what to expect and I really appreciate it.

I have lost 15lbs in the 12days since my surgery with 32lbs to go. I am really grateful to have been able to have this surgery.

Good luck to everyone!

Good to hear you are doing well, Dallas. I'm like you...very few post-op problems. I had very little pain, no nausea, vomiting or any of the other problems mentioned on the forum. I am so grateful and it is good to hear about someone else having an easy time. I wasn't even sure I had surgery for 2 to 3 weeks when I started adding mushies and began to feel the restriction.

Good luck, Kathe

@ DallasMom and Granny - oh how I pray I am like you both - no residual effects from the surgery! I pray, I pray, I pray (literally). It sounds like you both have had very good experiences.

@ Raine - After Tuesday (that's my surgery date) you'll have to make room for me on the loser's bench :D

I am five days post op. I had severe nausua and pain issues after and was in for three days. I'm doing well now. I am not taking the pain meds either. I was pretty swollen after surgery so tomorrow will be my first big weigh in.

I'm on the Full liquid for four weeks. This consist of 3 protien shakes, 2 yogarts and 2 jellos. I have yet to get a whole shake down in a single day. Yesterday, I only had about 140 calories. My sister noticed that I have black bags around my eyes.I'm looking forward to cottage cheese and sugar free pudding.

Congradultions on your loss!

Keep up the great work.

I'm five days post op and my surgery and recovery are going well too. The pain was tolerable and I'm off the meds since day three. The Phase II diet is a full time job but I am able to get all my fluids, Protein, and carbs in. Yesterday it was 95Grams Protein, 72 Oz's Fluid and 119 Grams Carbs.

What amazes me is NO HUNGER, I have to remind myself to eat.

The absence of the ghrelin hormone really is evident in the hunger factor. I find it hard to believe that I haven't had a bite of whole food in 13 days and am still sane.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
