MsC 0 Posted September 18, 2011 I need some advice. My surgery is 5 days away. I am on an all liquid 2 week pre-op diet consisting of Protein Shakes, broth, crystal light, Decaf tea. My surgeon has not required a pre-surgery cleanse-type product but I read on some post(s) that it is a good idea to do it anyway. Here is the thing. I am working up to 6pm on the day before my early morning surgery. I need advice on what product might work this sort of cleaning magic in a matter of hours the evening before my surgery. I don't want to be needing to run to the bathroom as I head for the operating room! Also, I am guessing that people recommend doing this cleanse because the gas pains are such a post-surgery factor. And also that our bowels are slowed-down for a time by the anesthesia. Are there any other reasons? Thanks for your experience and advice!
Janae 12 Posted September 18, 2011 My doctor did not reccomend a cleanse and I didn't do one. I had no problems at all afterwards. I honestly don't think it is necessary.
rubyspring 1 Posted September 18, 2011 I didn;t have to do it either. No problems. The gas is in you abdomen, so they can work more easily in there, not in your stomach; so a cleanse would have no effect on that gas. Good luck on your journey..
mamamckinzie 92 Posted September 18, 2011 Wish I couldl of skipped the cleanse. It was worse part of the whole deal for me....horrible!
kellyw74 258 Posted September 18, 2011 I didn't have to do a cleanse, but had to take 2 tbsp of Milk of Magnesia. It didn't even make me go. Kelly
SKCUNNINGHAM 298 Posted September 18, 2011 There is a product available over the counter in all pharmacies. It is located where the laxatives are. It is a salty granular product - quite inexpensive. If you can't find it, ask one of the pharmacy employees. You mix it with Water and drink it. It is awful and you will not enjoy the experience at all. Believe me, if you drink it at six in the evening, it will start working. I would plan on staying in the bathroom for a while. After you finally quit going, give yourself an enema. (also available where the laxatives are). The combo of the two will clean you out. This is the process I went through when I had a hysterectomy years ago, and I repeated the process prior to my sleeve. (My choice, not my doc's).
