How do you explain the scars?

Recommended Posts

I am keeping my WLS surgery a secret (close friends and family know but that's it) and I'm paranoid about someone seeing my stomach and asking about the scars. How do you explain them? I've been thinking of saying I had some cysts removed or something like that....any ideas that are really plausible??

Just say you had some laparoscopic surgery for a private issue and that you would prefer not to discuss it. Leave it at that its no ones business as to what goes on with your body.

I agree. I am only 6 weeks out and mine have almost dissapeared! I doubt anyone will notice.

Funny you should mention cysts... my boss at work asked me what I was having... she asked in a more concerned way and I felt bad saying nothing so I told her I was having cysts removed.... she was worried that something was really wrong so I figured telling her something would work better. It did, luckily. She hasn't pushed. I figured I can also explain the weight loss as my hormones finally being back on track and Portion Control :P

I have nothing against sharing that I will have WLS, but I was worried that since I only work part-time, they would ask me to leave since it is considered elective surgery. I have only worked there for a couple months so I decided to play it safe.

You can hardly see mine anymore but you could always say you had a hernia or that you got a cut. There is really only one 1/2 inch long scar on my stomach that doesn't look like it could have bene a bad mosquito bite.

I agree with the others. It's your business tell who you feel like telling. It will change down the line how you feel about your surgery. My scars really don't look that bad. Only the one do I notice and its so high and close to my bra line and doubt anyone will ever see it. Even if I ever get the nerve to wear a bikini.

My 2 biggest scars are pretty close in location and size to my gallbladder removal scars... the only other 2 that are totally on the wrong side of my body to be gallbladder scars are tiny and have mostly faded..... (but the big ones ... about 3/4 of an inch each haven't faded.. neither has my biggest gallbladder scar)....

Anyway, just tell them that you had your gallbladder out, and in the meantime, head to Walgreens and buy some scar gel... I use the ones recommended by some of the people on here who've had tummy tucks:

First, I'm going to grow hair over them so no one sees them. Then if they do see them and ask, I will say "what scars, I don't see any scars?". If they persist then well I will mumble something about an animal attack or a shotgun and I don't want to talk about it.

First, I'm going to grow hair over them so no one sees them. Then if they do see them and ask, well it will be a Bear attack that I narrowly escaped. I'm also thinking up a story that involves a shotgun

If that doesn't do it, then the fall back will be "what scars, I don't see any scars?"

That is hilarious!! Thanks for making me laugh today biggrin.gif

Okay I change my answer to this. If anyone ever asks I'm totally telling them I wrestled (and won) a black bear!

I have a pretty stock answer for anyone that asks me a personal question. "Is that something you need to know or something you just want to know?" Kathe

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
