No. I don't want malabsorption and I am perfectly happy with my weight loss with the sleeve. I eat like a normal thin person now.

No. I didn't want my guts rearranged, and I did want a band eroding my stomach. I think the slightly slower weight loss with the sleeve is better too. It leaves less loose skin, and not many abosorbtion issues.

Nope. Not ever, not once, would I consider the malabsorptive procedures. Not only because I'm a successful sleeve patient, but because I'm healthy, and happy. I do not have to worry about major Vitamin regimens, I don't have to worry about medication restrictions, and I don't have to worry about all of the complications that come with those 2 procedures.

I researched all the different WLS's before deciding on the sleeve. I was very familiar with the RNY, my sister had it over 5 years ago. Her surgery was very sucessful as far as the weight loss, it was the malabsorbption, the dumping and the rearrangement of her plumbing that kept me away from that surgery. There are so many foods that she cannot eat and alot of food still makes her sick.

The lapband did not interest me at all due to the failure rate with the errosion on the bands, the slipping issues and all the fills. It was just too much maintainence. So to answer your question, I feel my decision to have the sleeve was the correct one.

When I started researching I won't lie, I thought about doing a malabsorption procedure because of my high triglycerides. After talking to my surgeon and discussing all of the ins and outs we both decided on the sleeve. When I told him what about the triglycerides, he said with the new diet and the weight loss I could probably manage that with one pill 2x a day. If that is not the case then we will revisit. I researched some more and ultimately decided on the sleeved. Like mose the throught of rearanging my plumbing wasn't apealing but I was at a loss as to how to get my numbers down. The band was OUT of the question, because the idea of having a foreign object that I had to constantly maintain and the possibility of all the complications later on down the line was not appealing. I know how to eat healthy, I've done it a million times, but if you eat too much, well its too much. My surgeon was right, I now manage my triglyceride numbers with 1 pill 2x a day. If I could go back and do a different procedure I wouldn't. The sleeve was the best option for me.

No, I would not do another type of weight loss surgery. I researched all types for a year, went to several weight loss centers to listen to their doctors and their presentations. The malabsorption issues, dumping and rearranging my organs turned me off. If I didn't hear about the sleeve, I wouldn't have gotten WLS at all.

Before I heard of vsg, I was determined to get a lap band. Then a close friend and her sister told me about vsg. The sister had it done and was doing amazing! She looked great. She felt great. She was so excited when she talked about her surgery. My friend told me she was going to have it done as well, so I decided to research it. Once I learned more about it and all the problems experienced by lap band recipients, I knew it was vsg for me! It's been just over 2 months, and I wouldn't change a thing...except that I would have done it YEARS ago if I could do it over. I am THRILLED with everything about it!

My answer is the same...no I don't wish for any other type of surgery. As far as the RNY, the whole rearranging of my plumbing and malabsorption held absolutely no appeal. The DS, I never even investigated and the LB, I've heard too many horror stories and the idea of the plastic parts did not hold much appeal nor going in regularly to have fills. The Sleeve was the best choice for me!

I am happy so far with the sleeve and I am only a month out. I originally was going for the lapband, but, at orientation they touched base on the sleeve and that peeked my interest! I researched it and decided it was right for me! I felt the gastric bypass was too extreme and I already have issues were I lack vit D, Iron etc., so I didnt think that was good for me. But with the band, way too much maintenance and my friend keeps puking with the band. So, the fact that I never got sick with the sleeve makes it the best choice for me and the fact that I dont have any hunger and my friend with the band is always starving! So, I wish I could eat alittle more, but, ,I am happy with my sleeve!

I was originally thinking of the RNY (because I didn't know about the sleeve). My husband was pushing for the lap band because it is "reversible." When I heard about the sleeve...I pushed full steam ahead to get this surgery. I was no longer interested in someone slicing and dicing my guts.

NEVER!!

I think you will find very FEW people on here that regret their decision on the sleeve and the ones that do, are fairly early in the game and are thinking "what have I done", which pretty much everyone does at some point. But that soon passes once we get healed up and learn how to live with the new tummy!

I would do it again 100 times over.

Kelly :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
