Wondering if something is "wrong"

Recommended Posts

I am two months out and at my six week appt I told my doctor that I actually get hungry which I thought would be a negative. He was happy about it. He said that he much prefers me to feel hunger so I will eat than forget to eat.

Thank you all for the advice and comments, I really appreciate it.

I guess I have to be patient the next week or so until I can try some mushies, which scares me to death!

I broke down last night and was crying asking my husband what have I done?

Hopefully this is just a phase

Are we allowed to add a little healthy fat to our Protein shakes? Like coconut oil or a little avacado? Maybe even an organic egg?

Ask your Doc.

Everyone is different. Some people do not feel hunger some do. I can hear my stomach growl but I do not actually feel hungry, for the most part. Just because we might not feel hungry doesn't mean our stomachs will not growl. Also, the acid reducer helped after the first few weeks or so. You are still healing. If you are anything like me, that growling feeling will go away when you begin to eat real food again

2 weeks and 5 day's out and I get hungry, but it's nothing like before when I had a normal size stomach. Most day's I have to remind myself to eat. Sometimes when Im running around, I forget, then all of a sudden the hunger hit's me. But I can handle it cause it's not as bad as before.

I agree with everyone that said give your body time to adjust to the change. laugh.gif

I am five months out and my stomach still makes a lot of gurgling noises and has since right after surgery. Before surgery, I would have called these hunger pains. I think what I am experiencing now is due to the WLS. I take a Priliosec every morning. The noises typically happen right after I have had something to eat and last about 1/2 hour. They also happen when I lay down in bed on my stomach or side (they stop if I lay on my back.)

About feeling hungry.... I can't say I have ever 'forgotten" to eat. Maybe I have too many eating cues in my world? If it has been 3-4 hours since I last ate, I will feel a empty sensation that reminds me that it's time to eat, but its nothing like hunger pains or cravings I had before surgery.

The best part is that I have completely lost the desire to "snack." I used to have a regular dinner and then spend the rest of the evening thinking about and searching out high carb Snacks to have while watching TV....popcorn, candy, chips, crackers and cheese. I have completely lost the desire for these items. I eat my dinner followed usually by a frozen greek yogurt or healthy choice fudge bar and then I am done until morning. I love my sleeve!!

I am five days out and I am sooo tired of sleeping on my back!! I totally hear where you are coming from...I have been sleeping in my recliner for 3 days now. I think I'm going to try my bed tonight and see what happens.

im 3 days post op and while i dont have any real hunger, i do have some serious sounds coming out of me, one just happened and it sounded like a toilet gurgling lol. the pain is much more bearable today and i havent had any pain meds yet. i take previcid otc and works well to control any acid, but i havent had any reflux since the operation, but im not willing to risk the healing process to stop taking my proton pump inhibitor.

it really is a wild ride :D i just wish i could sleep on something other then my back.

I'm backwards from the way I was pre surgery - pre surgery, my stomach would growl when it was empty and ache when it was too full. Now my stomach aches when it's empty and growls when it's full. It's actually kind of funny in a twisted sort of way.

You may, actually, be hungry. Especially if you're still on liquids. I was. I still get 'hungry' now that I am 2 months out, but it is a much different feeling than it used to be - just a shadow of what it used to be like to be hungry. I love that it no longer rules my life.

I wore a weight support belt around my stomach for the first two weeks - 24 hours a day (except when I showered). It made it easier to move around and easier to sleep. With the weight support belt, a heating pad, and pillows propped around my stomach, i could sleep on the side they didn't pull the stomach through. I didn't sleep with the heating pad, just used it before sleep.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
