What protein shake do you recommned?

Recommended Posts

My Dr gave me a list of different Protein Shakes, but not sure which ones to get. Can anyone recommend a brand and flavor and if you have any "tricks" on how to make them better?

I noticed that Sam's is selling several different brands, even GNC brands. Any tried any and recommend?

Thanks!

I love the Premier Protein shakes from Sam's (and Costco). They have 160 cals and 30g Protein in 11oz. They only had chocolate at costco but you can buy them online in vanilla and strawberry as well. To me they taste like the Atkins shakes, only a little thinner and with twice the protein.

The Syntrax nectar powders are ok and come in lots of different flavors. I liked the Cappuccino and vanilla Bean Torte best. If you search for shake recipes on this site you'll find tons of them. Most recently I've been mixing Vanilla with pumpkin puree and milk and spices to make a pumpkin pie shake, but you can use whatever powder you like best. powders seem to be really individualized in terms of taste.

Syntrax Nectar...It comes in over a dozen flavors and I love them all. My very favorite is the chocolate Truffle. They all have 100 calories, 0 carbs, 0 fat and 24 grams of Protein. I buy it from mybariatricpantry.com You can buy a sample pack with 10 different flavors for about $12.00. I tried many kinds of Proteins drinks and powders and this is by far the best.

Thanks for the recommendation. this is off subject but I saw in your info that you had emergency surgery for bleeding after the sleeve. My surgery is next mth and wondering if you don't mind sharing what happened that caused the emergency surgery? To say that I am nervous is the biggest understatement ever. thanks.

I second this recommendation. My favorite nectar Protein drink is vanilla Bean Torte followed closely by Cappuccino. I also like a few of the Inspire Protein powders - Caramel latte is great.

Pantry Selections makes some great hot chocolate flavors that have about 15 grams of protein, low carbs and fat.

There are def some great tasting protein powders available, it might take you some trial and error before finding one(s) you love.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
