Restriction increasing at 11 weeks?

Recommended Posts

So, I'm eleven weeks out from surgery, and my hunger never entirely disappeared. It's not a ranging munchies monster (and I'm SO excited about that!), but I do get a definite, strong "empty" sensation first thing in the morning, or a while after meals.

This week suddenly I'm feeling full more, and longer. I'm eating the same things I ate last week and the week before, so it's not the transition to denser foods. It did start the day after eating something I shouldn't have earlier this week (emotional eating reared its ugly head for the first time!), but my tummy was completely fine with it at the time - no pain, no discomfort.

I'm not sure whether this is normal ebb and flow of appetite (which would be a first in my life!), whether my sleeve is grouchy at me over my lapse earlier this week (even though it felt fine at the time), or what's going on. For three days I've had to really work at getting in my liquids, Protein Shake, and a bit of meal - I just don't want anything, and I don't seem to be able to eat the portions I had been. I'd been doing 1 Protein shake and 3 mini-meals, with an occasionaly small protein shake on days with a longer workout. Now I'm thinking I may have to go back to 2 Protein shakes to get my daily protein goal in.

I'm really surprised to be experiencing this at this point in time. Has anyone else experienced something similar this far out?

Not that I'm complaining.... just wondering!

Are you sure that you are just not having a few days of not being able to eat as much? I do that from time to time. Some days I can eat like I am supposed to and others, it takes all I have to get in 400 calories. It is like my sleeve just wont have it. It can last a day or two or a week at a time for me.

I am a little over 17 weeks out and have experienced this about 5 times in the past two and a half months. Just had it happen a couple days ago and it lasted for 2 days.

I definitely have days where I can eat more than I expect, and other days where I get full super fast on everything. I never lost my hunger either, but it's somehow really much more manageable than it was pre-op.

I did seem to lose my hunger for the most part. I got a little concerned the last few days cuz I was especially hungry, but I still wasn't really eating the wrong things or way too many calories. It was worrying me though cuz I didn't want the hunger coming back. Then the first thing I try to eat today, I ate just a few bites and was completely full as if I had ate a lot. And I haven't been hungry much at all today. It's weird, and I don't know if it's acid related or not. I am 4 months out today and stopped taking my PPI about a month ago. No problems with getting off the PPI but if my hunger returned I was going to get back on it. But my restriction seems to be different on certain days and sometimes the time of day matters. Like mornings may be more restriction. It's strange how it varies lol.

I totally agree with you when you say that sometimes the restrictions are different throughout the day that is the same way I am sometimes I can eat more sometimes I can eat a lot less. but continue on with your success

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
