What dont you like about the band?

Recommended Posts

I am going to the doctor today to set up my appointment for the band at the same time with my wife. I hear lots of good things about the band but never here what people dont like about it? I am really scared cause I know its a life style change. Do you miss cetain food? I keep fighting for food! I keep telling my wife, but you cant eat this and you cant do that! and she keeps say, ya but those foods is what got you where you are today. I am having it done so I can be healthy in the future and I know being 295 isnt good on my heart...

I just wondered what everyone's biggest complaint is?

thanks

Mark

Mark, I think the most difficult thing we deal with is our brain telling you that you haven't eaten enough when your new stomach is telling you enough. That is the only thing I still struggle with after almost 6 months if being banded. You can pretty much eat anything you want to with the band, just tiny bits! I think the only food that really gives me fits is bread! But if that's the only thing I CAN"T eat, I can live with that.

Anyway, don't start worring about things you can't control now. I thonk the reason you only hear good things from people who are banded is because there really isn't much bad to say about it. I'm glad that this is the way I chose to go and I'm sure you will be too!!!

Good Luck and Congrats to you and your wife!!!

I'd say the most difficult thing I deal with is the head hunger issue, and that's not a problem with the band...it's a problem with me! Sometimes I want to keep eating and the band says I've had enough...on a couple of occasions I've even been a little angry that it's stopping me, even though it's doing just what it's supposed to do. I know most of us have "head hunger " issues, which is why we got fat in the first place!

I can see that being a problem, but thats the problem I have now, I stop too late. Like last night I was up til 11:30 saying why did I have cake and ice cream after that big meal. I just cant say NO! hope the band will train me to eat right size portions. I am glad to hear you can kinda eat what you want just small amounts cause I had emagined in my head I would have really watch every meal.

After you are banded you just have to make good choices on what you eat first! After you eat what you should, usually you can't even think of eating anything else. Just too full!!! That's one of the great benefits, when you're full you're full!!! One extra bite and you'll know it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
